flickering when using DVD to VCD with SmartRipper, DVD2AVI and TMPGEnc

I have no problem using this guide and the associated programs when the video type is NTSC. However, when the video type is FILM the resulting dvd flickers. I'd appreciate any help as to what I have to do differently.
