My son has a xbox 360 slim. It only has a 4gb drive so I am getting him a 250gb drive only for it. I can't figure out if I need the transfer cable for it. Do I only need the transfer cable if he wants to move something from his old xbox or do I need the transfer cable if he wants to use it on his new xbox? Thank you.
you shouldnt need it. just pop the 250 into the bay and it will work. however, make sure you are getting the correct hard drive for the slim as they use a different one than the older 'fat' 360s.

I havent gotten a Slim yet, but I'm guessing that the 4GB is internal memory, so you should be able to add the 250 GB HDD and use both the internal memory and the HDD. Or simply move the contents of the 4GB internal memory to the new HDD.
wabashman, are you sure? Everything I've read has clearly said that the hard drives from S and non-S type are 100% compatible. Personally, I can't think of a reason why they wouldn't be. Can you post a source? I'm not saying you're wrong, it's just that this is the first I've heard about any possible incompatibilities.
im saying they wont fit with the old case on it. you can buy the old hard drive, but you will have to take it out the case and put it in by itself as the slim's hard drive has a completely different bay.
