Been out of picture for awhile - backups online/banning?

I've been out of the loop on mods for awhile.
I have had a few 360s, most has RROD are weren't really repairable.

But I stopped playing online a few week before major banning took place, I think December 2009? My games had been stealth checked.

Is there any way to check if I've been banned without updating? Or to check which firmware my xbox has?

Also, if I am banned, is there any way to play backups online reliably with a new system? Never heard of falcon, jasper, 360 slim, etc. Tried reading into it but got more perplexed as I've missed a lot.
