Microsoft wants to block TiVo from U.S.

article published on 25 January, 2011

Microsoft has asked the International Trade Commission to block all TiVo imports to the U.S., claiming the company has violated multiple patents. The complaint focuses on patents relating to technology used in TiVo's Mediaroom software, available on various DVRs, including the AT&T U-Verse set-top box. Microsoft filed a formal lawsuit against TiVo last January. The software giant ... [ read the full article ]

I totally agree.

Tivo pioneered the DVR.........all other followed. Go F yourself Microsoft!!

Tivo's interface, system, API are all the epitomy of what a DVR should be. They all took from Tivo and tried to make their own.

Again............GO F YOURSELF Microsoft!!

Sorry but I had DVR functionality in Windows way before TIVO was even a company. TIVO is quick to sue anybody that makes a DVR and they hardly pioneered DVR functionality. Maybe their software is unique in a way but using a tuner or video capture card to record video to a hard drive and store it in a browsable interface is hardly TIVO's idea. Not that it is Microsoft's either but TIVO is a big rip off and are crooks too.

TiVo's idea was not to capture video; anyone can do that...it was to make it easy...remember recording TV before TiVo? You had to enter the start and stop times for every show manually; it was like programming a VCR.

I think ReplayTV actually pioneered the DVR. It came out around the same time as Tivo but had commercial skip. They also were the first to offer the ability to transfer recorded content to the PC.
And I was doing stuff like that using my ATI All In Wonder Cards and other TV Tuners on a Windows PC before both of TIVO and ReplayTV
