Blueray drive not spinning, faulty laser??

Alright well I've got an 80Gb PS3 and the drive has stopped loading anything: CD's, DVD's and bluray games. I took it apart today for the first time and took the bluray drive out, cleaned the laser then re-assembled the drive. It still wouldnt load the disc. The blue light will come on when I insert the disc and the little spinning icon comes up in the top right corner of the tv, it will eject and take games in no problem but won't load them.

I decided to take the top casing off the drive and see if the disc was spinning and sure enough it wasn't. I've tried CD's and games but it still won't spin. I took the magnet part off while there was no disc inside and powered up the console and the laser moved up slightly then back down not too sure if this means it is ok.

I've done some googling and a lot of people are saying its the laser that is the problem because if the laser is too weak it wont even spin at all. If I buy a replacement laser will this cure my problem?

Anybody? Also got an update, the laser does not light up at all but it does move.
