Quote:Korean electronics giant LG is seeking to block the sales of PlayStation 3 consoles in America as its ongoing patent fight has taken a new twist.
To quote from EuroGamer: "The Foss Patents blog contacted Eurogamer to reveal documents filed with the US International Trade Commission in Washington relating to the complaint. mThe ITC has the power to block imports of products that violate US patents.
LG claims Sony is infringing four of its patents in a complaint that broadly relates to "certain electronic devices having a Blu-Ray Disc player and components thereof", but the PlayStation 3 (Model No. CECH-2501A) is the only Sony product to be specifically named in the main document of the complaint.
A Bloomberg reports suggests LG's claims are revenge for cases brought against it by Sony in December. Sony claims the Seoul-based company is infringing seven of its patents relating to LG phones. Sony has also filed a civil lawsuit against LG Blu-ray players.
LG and Sony are the world's second- and third-largest TV makers, trailing Samsung."
Official documents reveal that the infringements centre around "the reproduction of data recorded on Blu-ray Disc media."
Well someone has to try putting Sony in their place. Right now they are trying to force youtube and google to hand over users' details of anyone who has viewed, or commented on I believe geohots video. First of all they have no right and in fact would be breaking severals laws. But it seems Sony believes it can do anything it wants.
We are all asking what on earth is Sony thinking?! Are they so desperate to push all their consumers away? It's all they seem to be doing right now.

Yeah I know what you mean. Me personally, I really can't say "F" Sony like a lot of idiots some other forums are saying and how that I won't support them any more(The same stupid people are still using their systems up to this day), because the fact of the matter is that the ps3 is still one of the greatest entertainment systems ever made. I understand that they want to protect their investment from piracy but the way their going about it is very unethical by asking google to release someones personal information. Their better of banning people like Microsoft does and keep doing their mandatory firmware updates instead of tarnishing their imagine because they really made a lot of bad and stupid moves last year.
I CAN say f**k sony...I had been a loyal PS user for over a decade when they removed OtherOS...and they have been hammering me ever since. Forced updates that do nothing, updates that prevent the use of movie backups, updates that brick systems (yet still do nothing else)...they have gone to war against their most loyal customers...and for what? To prevent piracy? Hardly...pirates don't own PS3s...they own PCs or maybe XboX360s. I know a few PS3 pirates have popped up recently...but they would never have a route to piracy if it were not for Sony and their "Anti Piracy" actions such as the removal of OtherOS. Now I finally get OtherOS back plus PSN...and the next day they turn off the proxy hack. We went weeks with people having the ability to pirate software and play online...but the moment we get the freedom to run OtherOS again...that is when Sony blocks us...clearly this has nothing to do with piracy and everything to do with control.
Oh, and here is a hint for you...when a company resorts to using the DMCA, you know they are crooked. Everything that should actually be illegal is covered by some other law...the DMCA is just a generic "catch-all" that can be applied to almost anyone...even sony is guilty of multiple DMCA violations. If we all followed the DMCA to the letter, the purchase or sale of any device with any form of DRM would be a federal crime...technically, Sony is guilty of at least 15,000,000 DMCA violations in the USA alone, just for PS3 sales. Too bad that the DMCA is only used against citizens and not corporations.
So psn may be down for now, but it looks like every time they release an update they re enable the proxy hack. Sony must use a proxy for testing or something I am guessing, so wait until 3.60 and I bet we can get back on the psn.
