OnLive gets $40 Million investment from HTC

HTC has invested $40 million in cloud video gaming service OnLive, in an effort to strengthen gaming capabilities on smartphones (and likely tablets).

this is awesome news, if they could get console like graphics streaming at high speeds to smartphones this could really take off

Console-like graphics on a phone will not take off any time soon. Not with carriers throttling bandwidth for the top percentage of heavy users. I think HTC is just making a smart investment the future of gaming. Onlive may be one of the big console alternatives in the years ahead. Hasn't really picked up yet, but who wants their console stripped of its security and what devs want their games pirated?

Yup, this is definitely exciting man. I absolutely love the idea of console-like play, but you know damn well that the telco companies would take advantage of this as much as they could. A $2000+ bill is not out of the question, especially if they used tiered pricing (5GB for a certain price or even 10GB for a certain price), and you I'm thinkin loads of GBs, it would eat that alive though. Unlimited date plan, please!!!!

Those are lies, lots of smart phones have now unlimited data plan for 30$-50$ a month now including the I-phone and Black Berry so if onlive moves to mobile play its gonna be a crazy hit and they'll probably make billions a year alone

More and more cell providers are capping their transfers...a lot of times it's only in the small print that they tell you this.
Let us know what providers are still unlimited. I'm fairly sure Sprint still is, but I haven't gone digging for small print lately...
