I recently got the Pioneer DVR-107D DVD burner for m home PC. I haven't had any trouble with DVD + or - R discs. So I thought I would try a DVD+RW disc.

I bought 2 Sony DVD+RW discs, product number PW47L2. The first disc went in and I burned some data to it using Roxio 6. I should note I burned this first DVD+RW on my work DVD burner which is a NEC 2100AD DVD burner. The burn was successful but when I took out the DVD, I noticed very strange burning patterns on the back of the disc unlike I had ever seen on any other burnt disc. I went on to discover the disc was unreadable in every drive I stuck it in. I tried probably 10 drives, (I work in an IT department) and none could read it or erase it. I had to throw it away. But I had a 2nd disc I thought. All would be well with that one. Wrong.

This time I was able to burn to the disc fine (I burned the 2nd disc with my Pioneer drive) and the disc was readable in all DVD drives. So tonight I just tried to erase the disc. It got about halfway through and then just ejected the disc. Now the disc is totally unreadable and uneraseable. I've tried erasing it in Alcohol 120%, Nero 6, and Roxio 6. All spit the disc out seconds after the erase procedure starts.

Did I get crap discs? Is Sony brand media garbage? Is it my burner? Anyone else have any luck with these? Thanks!

Pioneer -
Sony +

Try burning some minus media in a Sony +/-RW burner and you'll get the same probs... Stick with -RW media with the pioneer and most likely your probs will disappear.

Incompatible media is the most likely culprit.

Thanks Tosca I'll give that a try. Do you know if Pioneer makes a DVD-RW DVD for sale? I search all over the place online and couldn't find any. If not, what brand of DVD-RW would you recommend I try? Thanks again!

Burnist,
I am very new at this but I'll share my experience.
I have a Lite-On 8x burner and have used the Sony + RW discs and experienced no problems at all. I now burn to the RW to make sure everything is good before I do my final burn.
I use Nero 6 to erase, I found it odd that when the erase starts, it shows will be 2 minutes. Well I just erased two of the Sony Discs and it only takes 9 seconds (each). Can't figure that out but I'm not compalining one bit. The discs will be OK because that 9 second time interval was what it took on prior erases and the disc took on another movie with no problems.
