China Unicom shows off Wophone mobile OS

China Unicom has launched their own mobile OS today, dubbed "Wophone," the first OS developed in China. Motorola, Samsung, Huawei, HTC and TCL have already committed to releasing phones with Wophone. The new OS is based on Linux and Unicom says "Wophones" will sell sell for 1,000 yuan ($150) to 2,000 yuan ($300), aimed at consumers who cannot afford high end devices, like the iPhone. ... [ read the full article ]

It is made by a company owned by the Chinese government...it is not good; it is just another means of censorship.

Everywhere is dictated in some way; just in a not as harsh respect as China or Libya.

Yeah...I always get a kick when someone says that they want to sell a device for $300 to undercut android phones, when you can get an android for under $200. It isn't like you are going to do it by cutting the cost of android ($0) from the production costs!

I would be more concerned with privacy. Android has back doors, BY DESIGN!
