Unable to play on computer's DVDROM

I usually watch my movies on DVD player, but recently i took a trip to FL and took my copies with me, but I couldn't play any of them on my laptop's DVDROM. After I got home, I checked all my copies on my computers DVD players (I have 4 DVDROM and 1 Sony writer), none of them can play, but my DVD players (I have 2) play them just fine.
Basically, none of my DVDROM even recoganize my DVD-Rs.
Of course, if I put in my original, everything is fine.
What is the problem?
The copies I made are from DVDShrink, Nero 6 and Memorex DVD+/-R

I have never tried. They don't even work on the Sony writer that has written all of them.

PowerDVD.
But my DVDROMs don't even see the DVD. Always tell me there's no disk. faint.

You got me stumped. They play in your stand alones. They don't play on your PC, and you have PowerDVD. Do regular DVD's play on your pc?

Hi,
With regards to your laptop's drive, some of those drives tend to be more finicky about playing DVDRs. It may help to try some different brands of media to see if something else may be more compatible. Verbatim or Maxell are very good ones to try.
Anytime a drive doesn't see a disc, the first thing to check would be your ASPI installation. ASPI, in basic terms, is the interface that allows your drives to communicate with the rest of your system so a bad/missing ASPI can cause many problems. Here's a link to a guide and the download for ASPI:

Yes, all my originals play very well in all my DVDROMs, and yes, I have the lastest ASPI installed.
No, none of the DVDROM or the DVDWriter will recoganzie my copies, and yes, all my copies play well in my DVD players.

Nobody knows what is going on? This thing is really driving me nuts.
My steps are:
1. use Shrink to create Audio_TS and Video_TS folders
2. copy those folders to DVD+R using Nero

This might be a really stupid question ... but are you sure your DVD-ROMs will read all types of media -- DVD+R, DVD-R, DVD+RW, DVD-RW? I'm asking because I ran into the same problem, getting a "no disc" message when a disc was definitely in the drive -- but it was the kind of disc my drive wouldn't recognize.

Of course, even the Sony writer does not recoganize any copies. The writer has to be able to read DVD+Rs.

I have the same problem...the DVD burner I have which is a dual format drive and burner can burn + and - R media but absolutely won't read the -R media! what a joke. I've tried everything and am at a loss. It's not software related because even the base OS can't see the files on the burned DVD. Drivers? no way....nowadays with Windows XP pro or home drivers are built in and rarely updated. Firmware is your best shot at fixing problems however that didn't help me out. Oh well.....so much dvd-r media.

Quick Follow up:
The one thing that came to mind is the speed at which I am burning the DVD-R media. Maybe I will slow it down and see if that helps...otherwise, I'll eBay my -R media and stick with +R.

No, I don't think that is the reason. It's weird.
I went through all my copies and I just found out some some copies are readable on my DVDROMs and others are not. I am marking out those I can read right now.
I really hate to bring my originals to my trips!!!

You might want to try running DvdInfo and maybe see what might be different between the ones that play and the ones that don't. Maybe there is something in the media itself?

I have the same problem with my LAPTOP DVD-ROMS. A few months ago, i could have swore that they worked on my laptops, but recently i can't play any of them (video DVDs or ISOs). Some of my PC DVD-ROMS work fine though (along with the burner DVD+-RW). I'm thinking that this is a media "color" and drive issue. I'm using some generic CompUSA ones, which by definition are not very good. Some drives just don't like certain media but please tell me otherwise =(. I may try some RITEC ones.
My DVDs are weaksauce

Just a suggestion (if not already tried)...
Are you burning the maximum area of the dvd, try reducing the size of the overall file (more compression) in dvdshrink and see if that helps...........
