Sony has acknowledged today that a few features of the PSN have been down since last night and that it may be a "day or two" until the service is fully functional again.
The PlayStation Store is inaccessible to U.S. and European gamers, with many getting the error: "The server is currently down for maintenance."
Sony has not given a reason for the downtime.

"It seems unreasonable to complain about a free service"
It isn't free; you need to buy a $300 console to get it, you have to give up linux to get it, and some people actually pay for PSN+.
"...Especially when the shout down was in the overall best interest of the Network and its users"
I never thought of it like that, but you are correct. The attacks were on behalf of the average user, with the goal of shutting down the PSN. The PSN got shut down, and thus the attacks were a success. Sony has taken a strong stand against the evil corporation known as Sony by shutting down the PSN.

The lack of information in the early stages was uncalled for, they really could have done and can do a better job of informing its customers better.
I can't find any info on AD that it was hackers, are you getting your info from Sony?
I would not put it past Sony to not scruple and say that it was hackers. The PSN was broke around a couple of months ago and it was predicted then that it would go again. It would be very convenient to blame hackers.

Hmmm, PSN is free for the PS3 owners. Using your logic, something is not really free when you have to do something, then nothing in this world is free. Free Ben and Jerry ice cream is not free because you have to get in line for it. Free iced coffee coupon from McDonald is not really free either because you have to present the coupon and get it. AD is not free either because I have to get a PC and pay internet too.
Peace!

I don't always agree with KB myself.
Anyway it pales in dumbness compared to post #31!

As for netflix users I'm sure their pretty pissed because netflix should have to rely on the user logging into their psn account. Stupid ass Sony, and yes I know their is a working for the netflix now but a lot of average users won't know that.
As long as you try and connect to the PSN when you want to do netflix it will allow you to watch movies and shows. I have tried to not let it connect and it throws an error about needing to connect too the PSN, but if you connect and fail it still allows

When it tells you that the PSN is down just press circle/cancel when the authentication screen comes up and you can still get into Netflix.
Trust me, tried it buddy. Screen keeps popping up, even asked me if I needed a new PSN account, ha.
It works for me and all my friends/family who have been bugging me (as the go to guy for all things consoles) the past few days. Keep at it as it doesn't work the first time, usually takes a few tries...hell even when Netflix shows in the background it's a pain at times to get the overlay to go away.
