Hackers planning third attack on Sony

article published on 6 May, 2011

According to IRC chat logs acquired by Cnet, a group of hackers is planning a third cyber attack on Sony, which is still reeling from two attacks that have taken the PSN down for two weeks and left 100 million customers with data exposed. The upcoming attack is planned for this weekend, and the hackers claim to already have access to some of Sony's servers. Furthermore, the hackers ... [ read the full article ]

Hahaha wow Sony can't seem to catch a break. I hate that innocent people are going to get screwed, but I love watching Sony squirm. Sony should not have bitten the hands of the crazy bastards that fed them.

The validity here is in serious question...this is a rumor at best.

true it might not be, but i read in the other psn news discussion in someone's signature, in post #46 if i'm not wrong, that it might be up by sunday... so if they are planning based on the same rumor, then they might hope to do it as soon as they are up... who knows? either way, everything relating to this stuff has been speculation for the most part... phony doesn't seem to give full details of anything from my point of view... creating just enough doubt to hurt those who have hurt them before... for instance, they just say there was a file with the motto right? what if the file was there already from the previous attack? what if the hackers which "might" not have been from anonymous planted the file just like any felon would plant evidence to make it appear as if someone else did it... for that matter we could even think that phony is planting evidence to attack Anonymous... we could even think that they created the whole thing just to do that...
so many unanswered questions and we are left just to speculate... but if we look at phony's practices... it doesn't sound so crazy does it?

The original attacks came because of the Sony sueing George Hotz also known as Geohot(one of the early iPhone jailbreakers) because he released the info on how to downgrade and jailbreak the ps3.

Sony were warned that if they pursued him in court that they would attacks planned and they went ahead with the lawsuit anyway. And not only did they continue with the lawsuit but they didn't take the threats seriously or bother to put security upgrades in place.
Personally, whilst I'm on the side of Geohot I am pissed off that the hacckers have managed to bring Sony to a grinding halt because even though I don't own a ps3 I do however play DC Universe Online and the servers for that have been down as a consequene for the last week also.

I agree, many want Sony to get screwed but the side effect is that other innocent people are being screwed as well.
And, this group saying it is in the name of geohot is worthless ... why then post private info if it is in retaliation for geohot?

Maybe that's how the casinos work, lol. Isn't it easier to hire hitman than hacking back? Pen is mightier than the sword, but hired guns win them all :)

Seems like a risky move to be attacking Sony When they are on full alert. Oh well, hopefully this group does try another attack and they get caught and thrown in prison.

Part of me says this could be the 'rumor mill' to get traffic on Cnet, but the other wants to giggle like a school girl after placing a fresh set of batteries in her vibrator.

Do all, end all these hacker F@#$%'s need to stop it with the consumers and get into the CEOs and 'head honchos' and terrorize the supreme shit out of them is what they need to do. I mean if your going to get an all expense trip to Guantanamo Bay you might as well have one hell of a retirement fund waiting in an off shore account when you get out right?

I have been preaching the Greed & human control mantra for quite some time as to what these morons want to invoke on people and this is what the hackers are trying to get Sony and the other corporate haters to do... NOTE TO HACKER DUDES -- well, IDIOTS !!! Make "THEM" do it! The consumers don't exactly have "THE" power you're looking for.

"I" don't know who 'these' hackers are so I can box their ears and make them listen or point them in the right direction, so I'm probably still banging my head against a shit smeared mens room wall again too, but until the world & societies in general turn the Greed monsters off we're all going to continue to be sodomized by an un-oiled 18 wheeler for quite some time.

Food for thought...

Who is, "they". Does anybody really know?
I protest Sony products by not purchasing any of Sony's products or their affiliates. Fact of the matter is Sony no longer builds most of the hardware.
Sony stopped making TV's over ten years ago. They are all out sourced with Sony slapping their badge over the OEM.
We don't need a voice from rich young punk felons setting the rule and regulations.

Who cares if Sony sued Geohot, he was breaking the law anyway, otherwise he wouldn't have settled when Sony offered it.

To be honest Sony screwed up there by settling.

Sony are still suing Graf, and I don't think that will end in a settlement, As the share holders are wanting blood on the table now.

Anon can attack but could be a bit silly with the FBI etc after them now, I'm surprised the FBI haven't picked up the IRC servers but I guess they are just packet sniffing it.

I don't know that it was completely 'established' that Geohot was guilty. It was like here in the US with the RIAA Nazis sueing all the kids over music downloads and winning because the kids simply didn't have the "MONEY" for the high priced lawyers to fight off the RIAA bullshit. I simply argue a similar situation with Geohot here.

Was he "Breaking the Law"? In the USA, you are allowed to make a "back-up" of the material you purchase (music, games, movies) with the hospices that it could be damaged (acts of god, stupid kids, drunken brawls, or crap craftsmanship of the manufacturer).

Now what the hell are you to do if the manufacturer is NOT going to allow you the SANCTIONED RIGHT to enjoy your copy. I already know about the "piracy" implications here and every other bullshit FEAR theory "they" have for it, but it is the very reason for my rants of forums past... You have a LEGAL copy, but absolutely no "proposed" legal way to play it.

Corporations & their Greed machines need to quit trying to control the human condition. Make these items affordable and get us hooked that way & like the willing cattle we are, we'll keep coming back for more. Look at the PC market (well, that's starting to look more & more shite now that I look at it too).

Instead of $60 a throw, make it $15. Yes, there'll still be assholes out there, but not as much. God knows I'll buy more.

I only purchase PC games.
A console can not touch the graphics and speed of a fast PC with a decent video card and tons of RAM.
Building my own PC I can choose the hard and software of my choice.
I used to play NFSII online. Other then that I have no need to spend ours of my life playing in a fantasy world.
Also I used to race a real car which is much more pleasurable then playing a stupid video game.
Well, unless it's a REAL F1 simulator that drivers have the privilege of using/owning.

OK, I was in the military and really got shot at too, what's your point?

Come to a conclusion. Make a statement. Bring a solution.

We have all driven a real car as well (we don't have to just center around racing)... some folks have probably even picked up hookers and bought illicit drugs too, yet it doesn't really seem to bring to light why corporate Greed sees fit to make "YOU" Jeff, to legally have to re-pay for software that you shelled out possibly a couple hundred dollars for and then something catastrophic happens to your system & disks that causes you to have to use a back-up to get your system running again to use the software.

It isn't "JUST" the console market I may be blathering about here, it just happens to be convenience and relationship to the event.

This article is about vigilantes (of sorts) taking arms in retaliation for what they feel is unjust actions to a consumer market now driven by corporate greed. I take it you feel you're untouched because you have a PC. When in fact, you are mistaken.

I have commented in my blog & in these forums in the past that a type of 'revolution' might come to pass, but wasn't sure how/who would lead it. Seems to me that it might take place in/on the internet in the form of an economical attack. I can only hope that it actually focus' its wrath on the top corporate greed instigators and not the consuming plebes that had no real knowledge of what was going on.

It's going to be interesting to see how this one turns out.

Not at all bud. I know all too well any platform can be hacked.
Since I worked for the US gov but not directly for the military and helped establish the first website that wasn't ARPNET.
Stanford where I was an engineer for years is the first location in the USA for Joe Sixpact use to gain access to the internet.
My specialty is radiation detection however Stanford needed volunteers to make things work.

If you are a high profile hacker you will eventually get busted, tossed in jail and the key will be tossed in the garbage.

Doing DDos's won't solve anything. I get the point, but huge corporation could really give a crap about what anybody thinks, just as long as the money flow reaches their quotas. Sony wears a KMA sticker on their rear ends..

Nah, screw 15.00. I would setting for 35.00 per game. Like back when Atari games were costing 40.00 then 2 years later they were 20.00 a pop. I remember I was in Germany at the time and we could get them for about 10.00 bucks and in the US they were 40.00

I also think that some games to command a higher price tag than others. So, I say between 25.00-35.00 tops.

I disagree on the revolution portion. It really seems as just common thieves if in fact they sold private info. If it is all TRULY for the revolution then you should not go out and sell private info..say you stole it, prove you stole it, take the servers down but do not go and sell people's personal information or use their CC info for personal financial gain and claim it is a revolution for the "people".

I'd rather NOT be able to copy games legally (which I do anyway) than have 10,000 missing from my bank account...

Understood... & you can't run forever. I also know you can where Kevlar Underoos but it isn't going to save you from a head shot... (these lines meant for the 'vigilantes')

I just get tired of the 'newline' of french fried whiners that have been spoon fed wanting their time in the spot light going off half cocked and uneducated with their thumbs up their asses and their minds in Arkansas.

Sure, get behind a cause and do something stupid, we've all done it, but do it "to" the correct people and quit mounting up a huge collateral damage that makes Bosnia and the Holocaust look like a back yard bar-b-Que.
