Nintendo confirms server was hacked, no data lost however

article published on 5 June, 2011

Nintendo has said today that one of their servers was attacked by hackers but fortunately no personal info was compromised. Spokesman Ken Toyoda says a Nintendo America server was "accessed unlawfully" two weeks ago, but there was no info taken: There were no third-party victims. But it is a fact there was some kind of possible hacking attack. Nintendo says they have no leads as ... [ read the full article ]

"On Sunday, the hacker group Lulzsec said it had attacked Nintendo in a statement posted on its Twitter feed. Lulzsec is the same group that broke into the servers that run Sony Pictures Entertainment websites last week, and claimed attacks on U.S. PBS television and Fox.com."

I wonder if/when & where the backlash for their "lax and insecure network system infrastructure" happens.

Doubtful...

Possibly. If they try to hack Microsoft, who knows the defense differences.

Read this the other day and thought it was quite fitting

They're idiotically called "security holes" as if they're man-sized holes in a safe, when they're really more like a lock that can be picked if a person figured out a way to make the right key.
So I replied ~

QFT.

On a side note ~ since Microsoft is probably the worst example of a company to use as having "perfectly secure software" why/how/could people believe the Xbox brand would be any different?

Oh that's right, it wouldn't.

It should just be a matter of time for them to be affected as well. If not, then as childish as it is to say, then wouldn't that make the hackers "M$ fanboys" because they aren't going after all the "big name oppressive conglomerate corporations who strip/trample our rights" as they claim to be?

But anyway...the fact and point of the matter that needs to be understood (in what I said in my earlier post & here) is that no company is secure. Sony, Square-Enix, Codemasters, Lockheed Martin & recently Nintendo and the FBI have been hacked along with the Pentagon, Nasa, Major Banks and many many others too...people need to get over the whole "Sony" is the worst/has the worst security BS since EVERY company seems to be having the same issues.

Remember these hackers are going after YOUR data/information to do who knows what with...if you take out whatever company problems you may have with whatever big name company, then I sincerely ask how is what they are doing having YOUR back?

It's like they pulled a Jedi Mind Trick on the people who just don't want to get it...

first sony and then nintendo.seems like xbox360 sales will be a lot higher.since none of the info stolen from sony seemd to have been used the only people that would gain anything from the loss of sales (of ps3 & possibly nintendo)would be microsoft.

custom built gaming pc from early 2010,ps2 with 15 games all original,ps3 500gbs with 5 games all original, yamaha amp and 5.1channel surround sound speakers,46inch sony lcd smart tv.

The Nintendo breach doesn't really matter I guess, since nobody plays Call of Duty on the Wii anyways.

Honestly, I'm not surprised no data was taken from Nintendo, there's nothing useful to take, lol. Okay okay, bad joke.... I don't know what you need to setup to shop the Nintendo online store.

Peace!
