BioWare: Yup, we got hacked too

article published on 24 June, 2011

Electronic Arts (EA) has announced today that user accounts have been breached and data like passwords and mailing addresses have been compromised. The attack hit a server for developer BioWare, which is owned by EA. Hackers got in through a backdoor using the 10-year old "Neverwinter Nights" user forums. Although the compromised data is from BioWare, EA warns that your personal ... [ read the full article ]

LoL...the whole point of these hacks is to demonstrate that security is lax with these companies and that they need to do something about it, and now it is being spun as, "Everyone gets hacked, it isn't our fault that we had a 10-year-old backdoor"

Meh I am getting tired of this shite...Moral of the story seems to be protect yourself by having varied passwords for anything that matters and count on anything you put out there to get compromised at some point. Not to be a conspiricy kook but this sure would be a great way to discourage web purchases and redirect them to local buisinesses...lol

So, what? I'm sorry, I can't get it when people try to simplify and relate IT issues to retarded, real-world situations that don't equate at all.

This wasn't a kicked-in back door in some residential suburbia considering who's involved, it was a fake id card working on a very real lock and security system. It's more like me trying to pick my way into their building and safe with a twig and succeeding; I shouldn't be able to because it's not like we just came up with the idea of safes last week. Surely a company, and its subsidiaries, constantly evolving and aging would keep its security measures and tactics doing the same.

You don't start a business in 1990 using your floorboards for a bank, and keep it that way come 2010...
