Toshiba has announced its Qosmio F750 3D will hit Europe in August. The company has been planning on releasing glasses-free 3D HDTVs and notebooks since 2010, and they appear to finally be on the horizon. Neat idea...I wonder how well it actually works. I hope that camera fixes the 3DS issue where you practically have to use a headmount to keep the 3D from turning into a blurry 2D.

Regardless, I won't be buying one any time soon...call me paranoid, but I just don't like having a webcam that I can't turn off, combined with a processor that allows code to be run without my permission, and at the highest possible privileges. Sounds like something out of an Orwell novel...

You think by now all companies that make laptops and the like would put a door on the web cam. My Asus netbook has this feature and I like it. Even if my netbook where ever to get a virus that would allow someone to take over the web cam to get shots of myself or who ever is using the system would be highly unsuccessful to do so, that is unless I left the door open.

Yes 3D without glasses are nice, but what they fail to mention is that it only gives you depth perception, nothing pops out at you. Not only that you get poorer 3D performance w/o glasses (more crosstalk, a lot worse viewing angles, only 1 person can watch it at a time to get the 3D effect. Unless they come out with holograms, then yes I would invest in "glass-less 3D", until then they should improve on 3D content/tv's with glasses (make glasses less dimmer, improve viewing angles, etc). I can see glass-less 3D working well with internet content, and maybe some games, but not with movies. This technology, although so old, can be really neat if they fix the many problems with it, instead of first making the consumer the buying guinea pig.

They would make less money if they were testing these things in the lab instead of on their customers.

3D with glasses is a dead end...no one wants to stop watching a movie or playing a game every 15-30 minutes. As far as I am concerned, glasses 3D is not and never was a viable option. Depth is better than no depth...and without glasses, it actually has some usefulness to it...but even still, it isn't worth buying a new TV/Laptop for, even if the new glasses-free TV/Laptop didn't have an insane price premium.

Oh, just to clarify...it isn't the 3D or the Webcam that freaks me out on this one. It is the chipset which comes with a built-in backdoor...that is scary even without the webcam.

tell me more about this chipset and how it can do this when others cant. Basically how can i tell the difference. And why are they doing this
