Google adds movie rentals to Android Market

article published on 14 July, 2011

Google has updated its Android Market platform this week, allowing U.S. users to rent movies or purchase books right to their smartphone. As long as you have Android 2.2 or later you can now rent movies through Google's Videos app. The app has been around for Android 3.1 Honeycomb users for some time but less than 2 percent of all Android users have 3.0 so the store saw little popularity. ... [ read the full article ]

There's no more waiting for downloads, syncing, or worrying about storage space. Simply sign into Android Market with your Google account, and you can rent movies from anywhere?the Web, or your Android phone or tablet?and start watching instantly.
Until you hit your cap.

Haha...there's going to be some seriously pissed off AT&T and Verizon customers.

Have a friend here at work on AT&T with an aircard. He purchased it between Jan 2008 and whever the new plans went into effect. After Jan '08, AT&T custers have a 5gig hard cap (previously they had a soft cap of 5gig meaning AT&T would let you go over however much you wanted without charging more). Well...my bud didn't understand what that 5gig hard cap was until he hit it. AT&T finally contacted him somehow after his bill hit $400 in overages. All the guy does is listen to videos on Youtube...I know for a fact he doesn't torrent or download much of anything other than what Youtube streams.

$400 in overages on a 5 gig cap on AT&T.

So yeah...let's encourage people to blow their caps with more apps to get big downloads.

I had seriously considered switching from Sprint when my contract renewal time came up December before last. Now, I'm glad I stayed. No way I'd switch to AT&T or Verizon on the off chance I might get a $400 overage bill because I wasn't micromanaging my Youtube usage.

I've heard Verizon is only $10/gig which would be reasonable, but that's second hand info.

^^^^Also why I'm afraid of this upcoming merger :/^^^^

AT&T will start doing these ridiculous things to my plan next. Then I'll have nowhere to run but out of country for my GSM needs. I refuse to give up the convenience and greatness of SIM cards, yet I too refuse to be b***f***ed for such small and retarded data caps. May soon be a phone-less man.
