70-year old grandma accused of sharing porn via torrent

article published on 18 July, 2011

Over the years we have posted many, many cases of Americans being sued over unauthorized BitTorrent sharing. A few of these cases, however, have been so ridiculous that there are little redeeming factors for the groups that brought them, such as the RIAA, MPAA and others. Some of those cases involved grandmothers, others involved kindergartners, one involved a networked printer and one ... [ read the full article ]

She should just pay the fine...it is guilty until proven innocent...and as any scientist will tell you, nothing can ever be proven.

Is that what you'd do, just bend over and pay the fine? I say hooray for granny, she should fight and continue getting the seniors horny at the old folks home.
Is guilt also something that can't be proven?

Defending herself? I hope not, and it depends on the judge, but at a first look she seems so screwed... :(

Yep. Maybe, just maybe, he can explain to her what a bittorrent is.

LOL. I'm OK with milk&cookies, though. Imagine if, instead, you got porn starring... Nah, forget about it. We'd better not imagine that. X-D

I don't think age is a proper defense. My 80 year old grandpa knows what a torrent is. Also old women have needs as well.

I agree though that the grandson is a more likely scenario.

Creeps me out, just watch the Futurama episode when the professor is taking a shower as his female self... *Shudders*... I agree with fighting this tho, as much as I agree with her statement. Eventually the gov't will get fed up with RIAA/MPAA for wasting the courts time and $.

The courts are already fed up with them.

I reckon she'll get out of this simply because the court will ask her how to do the torrent thing and she can just play dumb or simply not know either way it'll probably play into her favor.

Also many people won't be happy when it hits the news properly.

Oh lord the mighty damn!!! One, when the hell did the MPAA & RIAA Nazis even start taking the porn industry under their wings!?! Two, "most" females aren't known for downloading porn anyway, especially 80 year old ones. Can't say that for myself, but we're not talking about me either... [No, I'm not 80, but I certainly feel like it...]

I just KNEW this garbage was going to start back up once the news of the lobbying expenditures came up a few weeks ago & now here we have it... Nobody will support them legitimately because they will get caught in a catch 22 situation. So what do they do, they start suing the crap out of everything that moves & see what sticks. Just like they do here in the states with speeding tickets. Cops will hit a herd of cars, hit the lights and then see who pulls over. If one pulls over, that one gets fined. If two or more pull over, they all get fined; pure 'F'ing gravy.

And don't any cops out there bother stating anything different. All the po-dunk areas I've lived in & cops I've hung out with have verified this with me, including the ones that cited me with the others "violators". I still got to pay the fine despite.

It doesn't say the MPAA & RIAA started this action. You need to read the article more closely before starting a rant. The Porn Industry has some of the most notorious individuals out there for pursuing individual legal actions against suspected downloads. Always has been always will be.

Calm down domie, you'd think someone would believe you were working for the MPAA or the RIAA. Besides, if the porn industry was just NOW that interested in chasing down all the porn-o-lopers why haven't we heard of limitless tanker ships full of people being sued over download infringements? Thus, my implication of the the aforementioned groups. I.e., the only ones with the money & authority to challenge ISP logs for what's being downloaded.

It's called deduction. Facts are generally derived from such things. Not always, but when practiced properly & for good. You should try it too.

This suit in particular, was brought by John Steele, who works for the porn industry.

These ass-hats that charged granny should be stripped naked, some honey smeared on their anus, and staked out over a little piss-ant hill and recorded live and the little piss-ants eat them from the inside out, should take a long, long time. Be very gratifying to see and hear. Go Granny!!

Point taken... Interesting note, Mr. Steele is also a Chicago legal tool of epic proportions... He's continuing to sue "Doe's" (un-named defendants) that a judge already threw out). I couldn't get a firm count on how many people are actually being sued (reported 300, with an unconfirm 1,017 horny other teenagers in Canada), but he can't even narrow it down in the cases I saw listed.

Even the legal community sites are finding it hard to not laugh this guy off the face of the planet if it weren't for the class action suits that he is throwing around with regards to "responsibility by proxy". I.e., he's suing college campus' for a bunch of guys downloading "Mommy Blows Best" [no, I'm not kidding]. Seeing as he can't nab the guys individually, he'll just sledgehammer assrape the college for the infringement.

It's this kind of litigation that has or should have everybody quaking in fear. It's also what has the federal judges throwing his ass out like crazy because it's individuals like him that needn't be litigating this kind future pressure cooker.

These crazies are suing the owners of the internet account...period. They know good and well some of them are not doing the file sharing but they are holding them responsible for not watching what others are doing on their computers and/or securing their wireless routers. Some lawsuits are just plain mistakes. I am glad granny is fighting the lawsuit. It will be a hassle, but maybe she will get an understanding judge and have the case thrown out. Go Granny Go!!!!!!!

Maybe she will get a judge that is fed up with this crap and he will give her damages for her troubles...that would be great!

Or maybe she has a laser printer...the RIAA has already said that laser printers have committed piracy in the past; she could just blame the laser printer and it would not be any more insane than the rest of this case.
