sophocles, hey man, don't ever take me seriously, I'm serious man! lol You did not, I repeat did not offend, I was just givin' brobear and you a little sheeeat. Please feel you can say anything you like around me. I truly enjoy these little te-ta-teh's (phonetic spelling)we have. You guys are great and this is a great forum. I'm not to narrow-minded to realize there is stuff out there that could be better than what I'm using. I should have tried it before I spouted off about it. You have just cost me another 80.00 so you should feel bad about that. You do not have to tread lightly around me, my wife certainly doesn't. You, brobear, brian, pete, flip, jim, tom, and all the rest of our bunch make this a place I look forward to coming every day. so please feel free to be yourself. I am a member now, so of course maybe I do deserve a little more respect? naaaahhhh! lol

I had expected that you weren't offended but sometimes I get caught up in the logistics of the situation and forget that there's people behind it all. So I thought I'd take a moment to tuck my tail in and learn a little humility. Yea right! Like that's ever going to happen.

If you do happen to feel bad about it, you can always split the cost. What's another 40.00 with all that you're spending. I know it would salve my bruised ego, not to mention what it would for you, you know, make you feel better about yourself.

That would cause us both to break one of the forum's cardinal rules, giving out emails. In deference to your recent promotion, I wouldn't dare allow something as trivial as $40 to affect your current status. LOL

When I was promoted to memeber I received a Private message from a moderator informing of his recommendation for a promotion, this time no said anything before you did. Mmm! I wonder if I should now be addressed as Sir Sophocles.

Well, if you're sir sophocles, then that would make us squires big o and brobear. I think we might want to dispense with the titles. Guess they gave so many promotions they didn't have time to send everyone emails.
I wasn't questioning your expertise on building a PC. I only mentioned what you didn't bring up. It was more for others and not for you. I remember sometimes that we are in a public forum. I was just letting Newbies know what the consequences can be. As for myself, I like big airy cases with large capacity quiet fans. That way I get to stick in the 3rd hard drive that allows the speed of Raid0 and a safe place to store important files. Nothing wrong with your method, I just like to keep the files onboard without doing a lot of backups. I'd like to see the shopping list and the specs when you get everything setup. It sounds like another award winning machine.
BTW, do you know where I can get a set of big blue laser eyes, big o has a thing about blue, being as how he is an orange fan. Besides, I hear blue laser tech is the coming thing. I to, like big o, become jovial while you are being serious. It might sometimes be troublesome as you can't see the tongue in cheek manner.
I don't know what is happening to the poor souls with the IV pixels. I realize they're not dreaming, but it would be interesting to know whats happening. My complete method is decrypting with DVD Decrypter in ISO read mode. Then I load the ISO file in Daemon, an emulator. I then choose the simulated drive and let InterVideo DVDcopy2 go to work. Great results and no complaints from this quarter.

Hmm! Orange and big-O. What's a big-O. If your looking for laser eyes you might want to speak with Nephilium.
There are no consequence because like everyone who does it I'll have a verly large slave as well. In fact I, nor anyone else I know have lost data using a raid0, its only slightly more common than a standard hard disk failure. I'm going to forget the Hitachi disks and just get a couple of 74 gig raptors, those with a large slave will be plenty.
I to, like big o, become jovial while you are being serious It's agood thing one of us is serious, right big-O?

O for Orange. Saves writing or saying the whole bigorange thing all the time. Sort of a TN, KY thing.
Sort of one of those tech things with Raid0. All the texts warn against saving serious data on a RaidO. Like you, I know no one personally that has had a RaidO failure (not that many of them in this neck of the woods anyway). Usually, I think most of the problems that do occurr are with improper setup or inadequate system resources. I wonder what the percentages of failure are in comparison to a regular HD failure. As you say though, I still prefer the secondary HD setup with RaidO. It is mostly an insurance policy against the warnings of the manufacturers. I'm one of the WD fans.

For a raid to fail it's likely to result from a hard disk failure. brobear I don't store data that is so large that a simple slave, CDRW wouldn't suffice.

Misunderstood, RW and not HD. Just a preference with the HD. Since the Raid0 is acting as a unit, I like the idea of a secondary HD. Drives are not that expensive anymore, so an extra isn't all that much. In fact, if I were building one today, I could scavenge a nice HD from my current computer. I have an extra WD 250GB.

I will also be using a server motherboard no other choice in the matter. It'll require a new power supply just to run it and it will have both Raid/SATA, and 2 ide connections which means I could run a Raid0 and a Raid1 at the same time.
I am a performance freak.

Hope you are as meticulous with records as you are performance oriented. As I said before, I'm interested in your shopping list and the specs. A Raid1 and 2 is not something to run down to the store and buy. I'm interested in how it turns out. Guess I don't set my sights high enough. I'm not imaginative enough to go that far, yet. That combo means bullet proof and lightning fast in the same box.
This could be better than the articles in the trades.

Give it up brobear.
I know what I'm doing brobear, it's what I've always done and part of that experience of doing is knowing what to do to protect your files. If my current system (which is by the way a raid0) would've failed I would have lost nothing.

alright boys, if you keep this up you're gonna have to start a new thread. Don't make me use my new status to keep you boys in line. Maybe we'll just say bigO, bro, and soph? Just got back, got a couple of new movies which I intend to be up most of the nite on. I might take pics and print them with my little guide for mrlovkim, so the thing isn't a total wash, and I will become vurbal jr. What-da-ya-think of that? bro?.....soph?......guys?........

Hmm! You have been away awhile, Vurbal would be here but he's currently being coronated. I'm also messing with a couple of flicks but I can't get past DVDremake (now they've got to be perfect)even though I could just throw them in the rom and let DVDcopy 2 suffice.

Does this mean we have a bundle of coronations?
Sophocles, once again I fear you missed the intent of my words. I question not your ability or your word. When I said meticulous records, I meant keeping up with the inventory of parts for your PC project. I'm interested in the list of components you're using, including their manufacturer. I meant nothing about the drive configurations. As you stated earlier, you know what you're doing and I don't question it at all. In fact I'm a bit envious. I can do the mechanics and put a good PC together, but your work is more cutting edge than what I attempt. So, if this post makes the light of day, I am praising the accomplishment, not criticizing. And you know me, critical to the end.
