Two British men handed tough punishments for attempting to incite violence.
Last week, people in Britain had to sit back and witness an unprecedented level of peace-time civil unrest in the country, as rioters and looters rampaged through streets damaging homes and businesses, looting and some starting fires.
It became clear that social networks were being used to organize some of ... [ read the full article ]

I swear, the riots are going on because they really pissed off a group of people from that killing, other people are saying "f*ck it, I'll join them," and rioting for their own reasons.

I really don't believe that. It started with a protest in Tottenham and then even the people there said it was outsiders who came in and started trouble. You are right that other people just decided to join them, but it wasn't to do with the police shooting, it was simply something to do I suppose. Monkey see, monkey do and all that.
Even when rioters were asked about it by the media, very very few of them said anything about any police shooting. Instead they started blaming the economy, which is kind of bullshit when you are running around with a blackberry trying to steal everything you can grab, or setting fire to people's homes or businesses.
There is some obvious "poverty" link, but there is nothing to excuse the damage that was done. People live in worse conditions, have had to endure times far more challenging than now and they didn't take to the streets and burn the place down because of it.

If government doesn't listen to your words than civil unrest seems to be the next logical step to me. We can speculate about the motives all we want, but obviously there were a lot of people pissed off about something and they had no faith in any civil procedure.

What exactly did the government not listen to from the Blackberry-holding youths who smashed their way into shops and stole stuff? The Government in the UK is elected _by the people_, so that's no excuse either, as far as I'm concerned.

I don't know I'm not there and I'm sure its different for different people, but surely you don't believe massive riots spring up for no reason or that politicians (no matter what country you're in) actually listen to the people that elect them?

So Mr Dickhead #1 is appealing on the grounds that it was a "misguided and misplaced joke". But you know that had his call to action been successful he would still be boasting about it.
These two in days past could have been accused of sedition, but the laws relating to that were abolished in 2009.
They should perhaps reflect that there are many countries in this world where, for better or worse, their punishment would have been a lot more harsh than here.

Pretty much. As South Park put it, it's always between a douchebag and a turd.
