South Korea is set to create its own alternative to Android and iOS, building a new smartphone OS for hometown champs LG and Samsung.
The country will allegedly begin developing the project by the end of the year.
Says Kim Jae-hong, deputy minister at the Ministry of Knowledge Economy:

With more competition in terms of mobile OS', this probably will happen... (Although hopefully HTC keeps in the mix, I <3 HTC :])

as far as I know Samsung already has Bada OS of their own which is very much capable and neck-to-neck with iOS and Android (except the availability of Apps). May be it's LG..this news is weird.
It sounds like a huge fail, even if it were 100% open (and it won't be), it would have to battle both Android and iOS...not just the multi-generation-evolved operating systems, but also the app collections and the loyal userbases. Haven't they learned anything from the failure of WebOS and Bada?

Samsung phones shit all over the other companies phones though.
Even Google's Nexus S is made by Samsung, as the HTC phone got smashed by the Galaxy phones.
