HP will produce another batch of TouchPads

article published on 30 August, 2011

HP, in an unlikely move, will build more TouchPads, in an effort to "meet unfulfilled demand." Analyst Shawn Wu says the move is just HP fulfilling its contract with Taiwanese manufacturer Compal, which it had cancelled half way through when it shut down the tablet project. HP is assumed to have ordered 550,000 tablets through Compal. The TouchPads will be on shelves starting in ... [ read the full article ]

I just think they didn't anticipate selling out of their entire stock in 48 hours.

Couldn't be, what company wants to sell more of something that is losing them money with each sale?

They dramatically cut the cost to get rid of their left over inventory, and they're just going to finish the production of whatever is left as part of the contract they made with Compal, realizing that they will all sell, at least getting back some of the money they put into this failed product.

I know that they dropped the price to 99 to get rid of the inventory but I still think that the price was way too low. They would have suffered a smaller lost.

You know...HP is moving to cloud computing and these things are going to need the cloud do to lack of memory and no expansion options. Maybe they intend to follow the Amazon method.

All the more reason why I shy away from buying one of these devices.

As far as tablets go, these are pretty good. I would hope the loss they will take on these is less than the loss from killing the contract. But sably, it appears to be their attempt to keep WebOS going, which may be a good OS, I don;t know I can't find any good reviews of WebOS on their tablet.

That was one of their biggest mistakes with this, not sending 250 tablets to be reviewed. The biggest mistake was thinking anything could compete with I-anything. Apple is more of a religeon than a company, and their followers tend to be the most feverent fanatics. Many of whom would purchase ANYTHING from Apple sight unseen, regardless of price.
