Do you know what happens when someone tries to make a new standard to replace all the old ones? You get one more competing standard. If these companies wanted a standard they would have done it like that from the start. They want control, and that means proprietary operating systems and a complete lack of standards.

as long as anyone can develop and distribute the apps without some sort of walled garden censorship committee to please, i am all for it.
