A friend with the local PD was telling me they will be carrying iPads soon. Among other things, they will be able to run your fingerprints, if need be, during routine traffic stops.
The San Bernardino Public Defenders office has them now as well. They keep all their case files on them.
I wonder how much they paid per unit and if they got a deal or not.

I agree.
Big cellphones? Yes. Laptops? Sure. Tablets? Screw that.
With decent laptops around for cheap and good battery life, I don't see the point in tablets. A tablet can't do anything more then my HD2 with Android on-the-go and can't do half as much as my laptop in the classroom. Like I'm sorry but what's their purpose lol

I'm of the same thought-line there. They're just for the fun/cool factor, but they're too bulky to really be "mobile" in my opinion. I just don't know, I'll have one eventually but just as a living-room prop to go with the SNES and N64 hooked up on the coffee table (wires run under a rug), the 360 n PS3, giant stereo receiver and subwoofer, record player, nettop, and 52" HDTV. Coolness factors. *shrug*
Now, if they came out with a decent notebook/tablet fusion, better than the ones I've noticed that just seem under-powered and flimsy (Dell?), then I'll go for it. Intuitive touch controls for browsing and moving about (I always hated notebook trackpads), but a slide/flip/something physical keyboard for input. Would be ok.
