'Star Wars' Blu-rays set record

article published on 23 September, 2011

George Lucas' blockbuster franchise can add another milestone to its celebrated history, the biggest first-week sales for a Blu-ray, ever. The 9-disc-set made $84 million globally, with 515,000 units sold in North America, alone. Additionally, the set was the most pre-ordered title, ever. Despite its popularity, fans have universally panned the films due to their "tweaks," such ... [ read the full article ]

Am I the only one who doesn't give a crap about the changes? they are usually very small details and to me it's just a movie. These people that cry like it's the end of the world because Lucas makes the Ewoks now have eyes that blink need to seriously get a life. It's pathetic.

No. You're not the only one. I was going to buy the set, until I read up on it's contents.

I only care about the original theatrical release versions. I don't care for most of the changes being made.

Except that it isn't about the Ewoks blinking. In episode VI they bastardized the climactic battle by inserting a line into Vader's creepy silence.

"NOOOOOO!"

And I won't even mention what they did to all three in '97.

Maybe people would rather see something NEW to this franchise, instead of more and more milking of the sacred cow.

Oh, Im sorry... Did the middle of my sentence interrupt the beginning of yours?

Not if the Clone Wars (Or, Hell, any of the movies released in the last decade) is any indication of where they'd be going with it.

I think the last three movies were milking of the sacred cow. They definitely didn't live up to the first three IMO.

The first three, were the first three. It should have stayed there. It's like the Winchester house... why keep building on to the damn thing? Stair cases to no where. Doors opening to doors. Toilets flushing into toilets. Next thing you know, you're part of the human centipede.

I really wanted to buy this blu-ray star wars saga, but decided against it as I already before purchased the VHS version, and later on, the DVD.

Unless they have a swap deal, where you can hand in your dvd version for a discount of the blu-ray version, this is a rip-off and I am not going to be milked for cash for something that I already own. We should not be made to pay the full price for something that we already purchased so many times before.

Get used to technology dude, its the same thing the recording industry does, LP to 8-track, to cassette, to cd, to sacd or dvd audio. Its amazing the movie industry can't even come up with an original idea anymore, almost everything you see is a remake of an older film. Gotta love those corporate formulas.

It is amazing...6 disks for 3 movies, and they couldn't be bothered to include the original, unmolested versions? I mean, it wouldn't even take extra disks...there are not a whole lot of changed scenes, so they could have put both versions of each movie onto a single disk, and it would only have required the extra space of the changed scenes. Heck, they probably could have included the original version and all of the different modified versions like this...and still only used 3 disks on the movies (leaving 3 disks for george to waste on his overgrown ego).

people are materialistic.its not just the recording and movies industry apple change the colour of an iphone put a higher price tag and bang everyones buying the new iphone.seen a tv show test an old ford mustang against a new ford mustang they found the old one more enjoyable to drive.m8 put a v8 engine out of a holden torana in a 4wd (think it was an old toyota or a jeep)back in 2003,a year later bmw are making 4wds with v8 engines and a very high price tag.

sorry for the rant (and yes ive had 1 beer) aslong as it new and flashy people will buy it.star wars might not be new but star wars on blu ray is.

Yes indeed.
Whatever happened to Blu-ray being so big it was easily able to handle seamlessly branching umteen various story-lines?
Surely they could (had they so wished) have let the buyer decide whether they wanted the original films or the titivated versions?

Naturally the suspicion has to be that there will be an 'ultimate' release.
This franchaise is deservedly known for milking the fan base shamelessly.
I guess people get what they deserve.
You put up with it over & over & they'll keep doing it over & over.
I'm just glad I have never bothered until now.

Frankly I'm just happy (if a lot surprised) that you could ditch the 3 later awful films & just buy the original trilogy.

Of course they are cinematic icons but there's such a lot of ridiculous pedantic rather geeky self-absorbed teen masturbatory BS surrounding them I was almost put off buying the OT in Blu-ray.

Almost.
