Teen beats man at COD, man beats teen in real life

article published on 1 October, 2011

According to a report in the British papers, Mark Bradford, a father of three, was playing a round of Call of Duty multiplayer online against a teen last week. The teen sniped Bradford, killing his character repeatedly in the game, and then teased him via headset about it. Bradford, who is 46, then allegedly drove to the teen's house and choked the child, resulting in a scratch and ... [ read the full article ]

this "adult" did two stupid things. 1) the assault. 2) running his dumb ass back to the same spot over and over again to get snipped.

"Freedom of speech" is NOT license to say absolutely anything you like, either de facto or de jure. Try yelling "Fire!" in a crowded movie theater; enjoy that felony charge! For that matter, try telling a cop exactly what flavor bacon you think he is, next time. The beating ought to be refreshing.
While the dirty cop might beat you for it, there are no laws against calling a cop bacon...and if he beats you for it and your friend catches it on a camera phone, the lawsuit will pay for 4 years of higher learning.

There are rules in place for the games...and you can get kicked or banned for swearing or even for antagonizing people in some cases, but the fact remains...if you say something to someone (anything with the exception of, "I give consent for you to hit me"), and they hit you, they are breaking the law.

And? That's why I spoke of de facto ("as fact") and de jure ("as law"). Try insulting the cop (at least, if not too many people are around) and you will learn exactly what I meant.

Freedom under the law (de jure) DOES NOT equal actual freedom.
when i was a teenager we yelled "PIGS" as a cop car was driving past.the cops did drive over and ask if there was a problem to which we all responded no and they said well there could be soon.i get the perception that cops in america are very violent and use excessive force alot (thats the perception you get from watching youtube videos).the police in south australia seem very laid back.

This is so funny. There should be an age grouping for xbox live members and some way to enforce it. When I play xbox live with strangers(Which is pretty sparse)I put the headset on the controller and rest it on the couch. @ 32 years old, I don't want those pre-pubescent shrieking little turds breaking my eardrums/speakers. UGH!

I WON'T GO DOWN TO THE LOCAL ELEMENTARY SCHOOL AND PLAY WITH THE CHILDREN THERE. WHAT MAKES MICROSOFT AND SONY THINK I WOULD WANT TO PLAY VIDEO GAMES WITH THEM ON THEIR SYSTEMS?

i think the majority of videogames are aimed at teenagers.Don't think the teenagers want some adult moaning about losing at a game either.

Remember it was you who was provoking the cops for no good reason that judge them to use too much force. Note I was young once and did more than that being draft-able during the Vietnam conflict. Later I worked in Philly. They had the most brutal cops in the US. The people that lived in the poorer neighborhoods, most likely to get abuse, approved of the excessive force. They were only half as lucky to fall victim of a violent crime than if they lived in a neighborhood of a like sized city. When the cops were finally muzzled, the crime rate moved up to a normal level. At least in that city police brutality was an effective deterrent. If you got caught doing a violent crime and the cops figured you did it and you were a repeat offender, they beat the crap out of you. The more beating you had, the worse they were. The criminals feared that more than prison. The locals believe after a few beating the criminals left town because they feared the next beating.

THis is a cut and dry case, LIFE IN PRISON.....PERIOD. THis man can NEVER EVER EVER be trusted to make the right decision again based solely on this. I'm thinking a death sentence would be better because if he's capable of doing this and going that far then what else is he capable of??

This little bit of "news" is actually just repeating a common urban myth that has gone around the internet for many years. I have heard this same story repeated over and over, they just change the name of the game to whatever the current popular game is.

Im not saying that something like this has never happened... just saying that it is a story that gets repeated from time to time.

Maybe it did happen.

It still sounds like you think that this particular story is made up or a parody of something that happened a long time ago. All you need to do is google "Mark Bradford" and you will get a hundred or so hits. Do you think they are all making it up? About 20 of the hits are large media corporations such as newspapers and TV stations. They would go out of business if they made stuff up all the time.

Or do you think this happened in the distant past and the media is just drudging it up again? If so why? Since Mark is out on bail it couldn't have happened too long ago. Or is that made up?

Do you think the media has an ax to grind with persons that play video games or something so they made it up?

You seem to be taking this all very personally.

I should have worded my original post differently, I only meant that this is a common urban myth.

I have NO idea about the validity of this particular story.

No, I am not taking this personally at all. I am just a pain in the ass. I like to try to draw out reasons for strange perceptions. Sometimes that is very interesting...

I figure either you are the type of person that believes they know more about the news just sitting at their desk than all the media companies in the world or, more boring, you don't understand what an urban myth is.

Urban myths are common misconceptions. That is why they are myths. For instance saying the sun produces light is not an urban myth but a fact. I will agree that there is a belief that ultra violent games and movies are linked to violent behavior. That is not a common urban myth but a statical fact. Some believe the movies and games promote violence. I figure that is wrong. People that like violence are more apt to do violence because they are not inhibited like most of us. Aside from that, there is nothing in Snopes to suggest that games produce violent behavior.

That is why I find you so interesting. You may believe their is no true linkage between violent games and violent behavior but I really can't tell from your posts.

You have me way wrong, not that I give a rat's ass.

You think I a have a problem which I may since I do like to pick on persons with personality flaws like you.

You can't omit to any kind of error. That is your flaw. You state something wacky to the world and get get very defensive when I call you on it.

Attacking me personally instead of just stating that you miss spoke is all part of that syndrome.

You are way too close to normal to have any real fun with you so I am happy to apologize.

Sorry for pulling your chain!

I will warn you I am not the only person on this board that does this. Less that a year ago, some member found a poster that went completely bonkers after only a few nudges.

I might add, this is working just fine for me. I really enjoy uncovering a raving lunatic every so often. The last I uncovered actually believed the US military had ray guns and flying saucers. That is far more entertaining for me than dealing with sane persons.
