Apple unveils iPhone 4S

article published on 4 October, 2011

New iPhone 4S is confirmed by Apple at 'Let's talk iPhone' event. After being 'leaked' in an iTunes beta update, Apple has confirmed the existence of the iPhone 4S handset. It has been speculated that Apple would unveil a more affordable iPhone handset (though that's not exactly the case), as fierce rival Samsung has been showing strong growth driven by both high-end and low-end market ... [ read the full article ]

WOW really not what i expected. They have confirmed their status as morons.
This device is already WAAAY out dated. You can pick up a GS2 with a much faster cpu right now. This is so bad for apple. Sad to say many a moron will want this backward device thinking its the new revolution!

They're taking the same path as iPhone 3G/3Gs. It's just so they can make money before the iPhone 5 comes out.

Absolute junk. Even Apple fanboys can't back up an argument that this is "good."

Stick with the iPhone 4, use my upgrade to get the iPhone 4S and resell it and make a ton of money. Mission accomplished.

actually not... This is not a huge improvement but is an improvement, software wise seems to be great, spec wise is the same as what we see now, for now this seems to put then in the same level as Android... The story will change depending on what Google will show next week... My first Nexus is coming and I hope it meet expectations, Very exciting moment!

Apple is always lake with their hardware "Enhancements". Android had dual core for several months.

Ilove my iPhone 4 and was looking forward to a new release. So I guess that I will have to keep that £500.00 in my hip pocket. Its no wonder that they wanted to keep this a secret until release day as its just a load of crap about nothing. There won't be a lot of people prebooking this lemon.

People didn't wait 15 months to get a basic improvement to bring the phone up to par with low end Android devices. iPhone 4 users will get iOS 5 next week so this "new" phone is a complete waste. I feel bad for Sprint who just dropped $20 billion for a company that is clearly losing their speed of innovation.

corekid, flipping this phone for $300 cash profit is about all this is good for if you are happy with your current device. Good call.

It's actually much more, you'll get the non-contract price for it which will be around $600.

I was under the impression you couldn't get an Apple device for under $200 even with contract upgrade.

That reply was silly, of course you can get a 2 year old 3GS for free...I meant a NEW device, clearly.

Wow I'm really underwhelmed by this. Prior to this announcement I was even contemplating going back to AT&T to get one.

On October 14th I'll be at T-Mobile getting the Galaxy SII instead of the iPhone 4S.

Their iOS 5 is a bigger upgrade than the phone itself.

Eh, I'm stuck with probably picking up this underwhelming device, as I still have a 3G and need an upgrade. I know what everyone else will say, but between me and the wife, we have 2 iPhones and lots of time and money invested in the iPhone product, which is hard to toss away and start new with an Android IMO.

What does everyone else think?

How are they milking me exactly? If you told me AT&T was milking me, then yes, that would be true, or if it were Verizon or any of the other telcos.

Sorry, I just take issue with people pointing fingers at Apple, Sony, Microsoft, etc. It's not like I have to pay a subscription fee to use the darn thing!

If you're using a 3G right now then this a huge upgrade and since you have already purchased many Apps for iOS then I would recommend you get the 4S.

I guess I shouldn't be too surprised. The 3GS was this same type of upgrade over the 3G. It's best to upgrade iOS devices every other year.

That's my feeling too. The "in-between" upgrades aren't worth what they're charging. I'm a little underwhelmed by the pricing too. $200 for the low-end is a bit much IMO.

ROFL...I needed a good laugh.

Now, does anyone have the real specs? I know they wouldn't actually make another 3G handset with that same crummy antenna setup and such a slow processor. Even a company dumb enough to refuse flash support wouldn't do that.

Yep, complete waste of time. As has been said in this thread, it is a HUGE upgrade from the 3GS, but anyone with an iPhone 4 (or a low-end Android device) need not apply. The worst part is that it took them 15 months (from the launch of the iPhone 4) to come up with all the "innovation" of today's announcement. This will, of course, buy Apple some time, but the iPhone 5 better turn some heads next summer or I fear that the company will begin to lose some of its "luster" into the future.
