R.I.P. Steve Jobs, great American innovator

article published on 5 October, 2011

There is not too much else to be said that Apple has not said in their statement. Jobs was forced to resign in August as CEO of the company he founded as his health deteriorated. He was diagnosed in 2003 with a rare form of pancreatic cancer and took leave from work again in 2009 for a liver transplant. We will have more in the coming week on Job's innovation and his contribution ... [ read the full article ]

I can't say that I will miss him or that I think the industry will lose anything by not having him...but I still wish him all the best in his future lives/afterlife/rotting in the ground/whatever you believe in.

RIP to the world's greatest salesman.

^^Nice

Really, I feel the same. But he did nudge us in the right direction for mobile tech, and I thank him so much for my Pixar and these lovely Androids. Neither would be where it is today without him. Certainly a business force to have been reckoned with, may his legacy make good enough decisions to live on. (I doubt it...)

Is there an iHeaven? If not I am sure he will get to work on that straight away. He was a man with so much ambition that a little thing like death won't slow him down. RIP from a person who detests Apple products but respects the man behind the brand.

to have the insight of something that he started as a start up company and to watch it grow to on of the worlds most recognizable brands it is a testament to the ideas of its founders who stayed the course and gave everyone what they wanted .. it will be a long time again before we see a spark shine like his .. the techno world has lost its guide...

My condolences to his family and friends. As I didn't truly know the man, I can't comment on how he lived his life. But I'm sure history will be kind to him.

RIP. The iPod although overpriced is probably one of the best devices created in the last few years.
Personally I don't think Apple will do as well without Steve Jobs.

Also a shame that he had to witness the negativity towards Apple from the event a couple of days ago.

I hated Jobs personality and always thought he was a closet communist, but you have to respect someone who is able to single handedly change the world.

Too true,

It was death that motivated him. He didn't want to be an observer on the sidelines, but an active player.

He was a crook just like Gates is I won't miss him at all. Just because he has passed on doesn't mean you have to make up a bunch of hog wash about how great he was.

However I don't wish him dead and I do feel for his family's loss so for them I grieve.

He was not much of an inventor....more of a business man. Also he did not invent smart phones or mp3 players........... if I hear that one more time I am going to puke.....

Copyright infringement is nothing more than civil disobedience to a bad set of laws. Lets renegotiate them.

I was never a fan of Apple products, but when I saw the first iPod I was hooked. It simply blew away any of the competition. As it evolved further and further and evolved into something much more than just a portable music player driving the industry as it went.

One only has to look around to see the unimaginable impact Mr. Jobs and company have had not only here, but around the world. Love him or hate him it's hard not to admire how his vision of making complex devices both simple to use and really useful made Apple a name synonymous with quality products for the non-technically oriented user.

My sincere condolances to his family. May he now rest in peace.

Apple/macs were the first computers to grace me with their presence. I owe a lot of my present and future to this man. Things would no doubt be different had my first teachings been different.

I'm not an apple or mac person myself, but I do acknowledge their uses, and the business practice.

Steve Jobs, R.I.P. If anyone deserves the pearly gates, it's you.

I can only hope, that one day, I may live the dream too ♥

Nope, iPods were no better than many others that had been on the market for a decade prior including Archos the actual first on the market.

There are some rare individuals who discover that ideas are born, not from other individuals, not from government, not from daydreams...they come once in a while from careful thinking...they never come from others ideas that have wilted on the vine. There was a time in this country that we didnt attack people based on their success. Steve Jobs will always be one of those rare people.

He was a good salesman, nothing more. He successfully trolled people into believing he invented video chat, that incremental upgrades are worth buying, and that people have more money than sense.

He could have cared less about factory workers committing suicide over bad working conditions, treating workers at Apple like garbage, skipping transplant lists with money, and being one of the few CEOs who never donated to charity. Bill gates gave over half his wealth to charity.

People say he revolutioni而zed the computing industry, no he didn't , he managed to convince people that outdated hardware with a fancy design its worthy of the £500 price tag. The software is another thing, but I could write pages and pages on that.
