audio not playing after using mkvmerge

Hello,

I merged 2 movies together (to get the best video/audio combination), and after merging them, VLC says it can't play the "cook" audio format in the result file.

However VLC plays the .rmvb source file just fine (which contains the "cook" audio).

Is mkvmerge doing anything it shouldn't?
What software do you guys recommend if I'm to convert this shitty "cook" audio to mp3?

Any help is really appreciated. Thanks.
