Barnes & Nobles removes DC graphic novels from stores following Amazon deal

article published on 10 October, 2011

Following DC Entertainment's exclusive deal to bring graphic novels to the upcoming Kindle Fire, rival Barnes & Nobles has now removed 100 graphic novels from its brick-and-mortar stores. A few of the most notable books are "Watchmen," "Batman: Arkham City" and "Superman: Earth One." The move is the first time the retailer has been forced to remove books thanks to a rival's decision. ... [ read the full article ]

Sounds like a child throwing a tantrum. Boo hoo, if they're not available on the nook we won't sell them in our stores either.

If your fish seems sick, put it back in the water.

Wow...why is the news so delayed here lately?

BTW...they claim that the reason they are removing this is to follow through with their promise that the Nook can get every book, a promise they have never come close to achieving. If they really cared about that, and not just about sales, then there would be a kindle reader app on the nook.

I don't see it that way, more a case of if you want to only sell your products via 1 product that is fine but don't complain to us about how we no longer sell your product either.

Which is pretty much what the DC company is saying because they probably didn't expect 1 of the largest book retailers to pull their products either.

by the sounds of it they are really hoping they don't end up with a dent to the sale of the books, the problem with digital products is there's no real value to it it's simply a file and nothing more where as a collectors comic can fetch big money.

though even that means nothing if no one buys the real books anymore.

Collectable comic books? There are too many fans taking too good care of their comics for that these days. Value comes from rarity.

I would think that they would want people coming into their B&M stores. Heck, I would take a print copy of a comic book any day over a digital copy. And I happen to use my iPad for 90%of my leisure reading.

I agree with KB. This is a poorly timed temper tantrum. Barnes is in no position to be playing hardball.

I wouldn't want to be on any site that would ban me for that.
