Nexus One owners, it may finally be time to upgrade your handsets.
Google has confirmed today that the original Google flagship device, the Nexus One, is "too old" to receive the update to Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich and therefore will not be getting the update.
Nexus S users, on the other hand, will be getting the upgrade "within weeks" of its launch.

Darn darn darn.. Repeat that a lot. sadly I guess this means that a newer nexus phone is finely worth getting. I was hoping that they would make a phone I just had to have because of the hardware not software.

Root. There is no way that ICS or any update is a good enough reason to buy an entire device when you can customize/install cusomized ROMs. Hardware, raw power should be the important factors, not what version of Android is stock.

If Google says that the hardware isnt powerful enough to get the whole ICS experience..then even rooting won't help that. CyanogenMod or whoever else will have to likely cut out some things. You can get ICS on the Nexus One, of course, but most likely not the full experience.

Maybe. But I still don't see that warranting getting a device with underwhelming spec's (for DVD anyway). If you're worried about the "full" experience then get an awesome phone and root it. I'm not saying don't buy a new device at all, you're fine with what you have; I'm saying don't buy something just because of its version of Android, as you can get a better phone and still get that version of Android.
I don't know about the One and how it stacks up to the S or anything, I'm just saying it doesn't make sense to buy a new device solely for the OS version >.>
you make a good point. I have been spoiled with the nexus one not needing to root it to get the new OS versions. I guess I will need to start looking into it.
