Sony considering online service to kill cable TV

According to multiple sources, Sony is considering beginning an online service that will be an alternative to cable TV.
The company has already approached several media companies in an effort to negotiate rights to offer TV channels via the Internet.
If Sony is successful, the company will be able to stream the channels via Sony devices like the PlayStation 3, BRAVIA TVs and Blu-ray players.

Even though I just switched to fios internet/cable I would subscribe to an online cable service if the prices are competative

I can already watch TV on my PS3...because it is jailbroken!
But seriously...if they made this available to PCs as well, the prices were good, the channel selection was good, and the quality was good, then I might actually consider signing up. Of course it is sony, so I know they will fail on at least one of those fronts.

I see this as the first step to a la cart channels. I'd buy into this in a heartbeat if prices were indeed on point.
I figure 1.50 - 2.00 bucks per channel EXCLUDING OTA channels such as NBC, CBS, ABC, WGN and FOX which should abso-f'ing-lutely be FREE.
I'd take about 7-10 channels like SyFy, AMC, FX, History, Nat Geo/Wild etc.
20 bucks...........NOW THAT'S A GOOD DAMN DEAL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

taking BOTH of you into consideration....that's 4 extra channels......only 8 bucks a month. I'd paid that to shush HER up any day.

I welcome the competition. Sooner or later you knew this was going to happen. I guess you could consider Google tv the first attempt, but that was more like adding internet to your tv. Sony is trying to add tv to the internet and then to your tv :) I live in NY and Cablevision really has the market share here. FIOS is not available everywhere, and I have really heard a lot of ups & downs with that service. Cablevision's customer service is down-right disgusting and would really welcome other alternatives to ditch them. TV prices are kind of steep anyway.
