I copied my Driv3r today using Nero - by making an ISO then burning it to a Grade A DVD-R (4x). I then tried to boot it with my Swap Magic 2.0 and it loaded to the main menu then froze, any suggestions??

what's up guys, I had the same problem as described here. I have the first version of PS2 (first batch shipped to US) and I've heard that it has problems with it.

Anyways I use the Swap Magic disks to play my dvd's. Today I tried backing up Driver 3 and the process went successfully. I use DVD Decrypter v 3.1.7.0 to back up my games. I just put in the game in my dvd drive, hit ISO read, then ISO write.

I have the NEC 2500A burner. The program said it burned the game successfully, but when I loaded up my game, it froze on the menu. I didnt even get the images in the background as you see on the original copy.

any suggestions, i've done the same process for all my back up's and had a good success rate with most of them.

I used the Imation DVD-R (RITEKGO3) disk if that helps.

I made a copy using DVD Decrypter, and it works fine. Its only frozen once, and that was during the game (my actual copy does that too, sometimes, so I can't fault the burnt one). I used DVD Decrypter to Read the disc and copy it onto my computer, and then I used it to write onto a Sony DVD+R. My PS2 is V9, so it has no problems with DVD+R/RW. They're just DVD+Rs that I got from Walmart. They have different colored tops. I burnt it at 4x too. All I can suggest is to try reading and writing with DVD Decrypter instead of using Nero. I don't think your media is the problem.

I made a copy of driv3r and it only lags in the menu but never freezes. The overall game runs perfectly fine. I read with DVD Decrypter and burned with Nero express. I used princo (i think) dvd 4x. My ps2 is v.5 with magic v.3.1. I also burned a perfect copy using DVD Decrypter, so you should try that.

I took my burned copy over to my buddy's house. He got his ps2 modded (dont know what chip). It loaded up just fine in it. so I think its my ps2 which is being a biatch. I recently started the pass from Block Buster for 3 months (as many games as possible thing). Anywayz I rented 4-5 games so far they all freeze some time or the other so now I know its my ps2.

Off topic have anyone of you heard of Sony losing a lawsuit regarding the warranty. My roommate back in college sent his in long after his warranty expired and got his laser replaced. Dont know how he did it but he said he heard bout this lawsuit and called the company up. He also got 90 days of replacement warranty on top of the new laser at no cost besides shipping/handling. Anyone heard of this? I want to send mine in if its possible or a new ps2 seems to be showing up in my near future (prediction:)

I made a copy of Drvi3r and it runs perfectly. I used DVD Decrypter to read and write it onto a Sony DVD+R. My PS2 is a v9 and I use Swap Magic to boot it. My only suggestion is to try burning it with DVD Decrypter. And 4x is a good speed for Driv3r from what I hear. I burnt mine on 4x and it works fine, but some people say they have had problems with a Driv3r backup burnt at 2x.

Yeah, I called Sony and told them my problem (DISC READ ERRORS) and they gave me a "waive fee" code to include when I sent in my PS2 for repair. It was waaaay past my warranty expiration date. From my understanding, SONY gives one free PS2 repair. I sent mine in and they replaced the laser, but it was messed up after another 3 or 4 months. I didn't stress the laser, I tried to "conserve" it, but its cheap manufacturing. Anyway, I bought a new PS2 since then. But call SONY and tell them your problem if it ever occurs. Oh, and they did give me a new 90 day warranty too. I got the same thing your roommate did.

You need some method of booting burnt games (DVD-R/DVD+R), but not burnt movies. You can either get a mod chip, or a boot disc like Gameshark, Swap Magic, etc. in conjunction with a fliptop, slide card, etc.

thanks for replying to my comments. I'll definately send mine in. Do you still have the number you called? I'm just askin so I dont have to call a bunch of random number and get transfered all over. If you have it can you post it up here?

BTW what did you tell them, just that you are having the DRE?

thanks again.

Yeah, when I called I just told them my problem, and then they asked me to do a bunch of stuff which of course didn't help (like changing PS2 settings) and then after that the woman that I was talking to told me that it was a problem with the hardware which was pretty obvious. She gave me instructions and an address to send it in for repair, and she gave me the waiver fee code so that SONY wouldn't bill me. Anyway, all-in-all its not too difficult. The number to call is 1-800-345-SONY (1-800-345-7669) If you need anything else, feel free to ask.

thanks for the #, I'll post up on what happens after I get the PS2 back (hopefully better than before). What kinda tests did she ask you to do. With mine it didnt even read Twisted Metal Black, SSX, Driver (loades up and freezes) + bunch others that I dont remember I rented. Anyways hopefully they'll accept mine and put a new laser in it or fix whatever the prob is.

thanks again

She just asked me questions like "Have you taken your PS2 apart." "Have you installed a modchip in your PS2?" Stuff like that. I told her no, cause I hadn't. If you have though, I don't think they'll fix it for free. She also asked me to change some settings on the PS2 that you access from the PS2 browser menu. Nothin complicated. Just kind of annoying.

My PS2 wouldn't read PS1 games, DVDs, orange bottom games, blue bottom games, maybe some more stuff. The only thing it read was a select few of the silver bottom discs, not even all of them.

I called them up today and they told me that I can send it in. They are going to send me instructions thru email (i.e steps I need to take to send it in). Well I did open my ps2 before to clean it. I have never installed any kinda mod chip in it or done any kinda of modification to it. I opened it coz my roommate told me to clean the laser with rubbing alcohol which was "supposed" to help me with my disk read errors. Also my ps2 only has problems with selective games. It does play some of them, but on ocassion freezes on certain screens. Do you think my opening up the ps2 to clean it might have voided the warranty. Well this was way after my real warranty expired so I dont know. They told me to send in a description on what is the problem etc, in which I plan to tell them that I opened it to clean it. You think its a good idea or will they turn this around and tell me its my fault for messing with the laser?

From my understanding, as long as there is no sign of a modchip, or a modchip installation they'll still do it for free. I have been told that people still got theirs fixed for free even though they opened it. I wouldn't mention opening it, even though I'm sure the repair dude will see that you did. Just don't bring attention to it and I don't think anyone'll care. It does void the warranty, but like you said, it had already expired so no big deal. As long as it doesn't look like you broke it (having cleaned it won't be a big deal) they shouldn't mind.
