Wow, THFS, you actually read the rules! That is so cool....Hey everyone a Newbie read the rules...a Newbie read the rules!!!!! I didn't realize that happened, with the way some people post you would think that the rules were not available until you became a member.

stop ripping the blonde to shreds found answer to my first question. Are any of you clever enough to tell me why the file needs to be encoded and a VCD burned to a dvd disc would not work in my dvd player?

Yes, I believe we are probably clever enough to do that. I also believe that we are clever enough to have read the rules to this forum and know that it is not permitted to support or condone piracy (Rule #5). Now, proving us wrong and explaining how and why these are not pirated movies you are trying to burn would get you a lot closer to the answers you are looking for.
You have to understand that we are not picking on you. We are trying to prevent this site and others like from getting in trouble for helping people commit piracy.

What program did you use when downloading from your camera? Did it put the files directly into AVI or into mpeg and then you converted to AVI? Do you still have the files on your camera? Do you still have the files in mpeg format? Please give me as much information as possible this will help me figure out what step to take next.

There is an easier way, you can use nerovision express which can be found in Nero ultra 6 package. A must video and audio package for any newbie in my opinion. With nerovision you can also create a working menu with chapters and all. It also includes recode which is an excellent dvd backup prog that also keeps a fully functional menu after re-authoring, however it isn't free. You can get it at eagletronics for 49.00, which considering it costs 99.00(and worth every penny) is a good deal.

I too must repeat the rules that discussing downloaded copyrighted material is forbidden on the forum. If the file came from your camera then why didn't you say that, instead of stating that they were downloaded movies? We can only respond to what we read from your posts. It's important to state your problem as concisely and precisely as possible to avoid such confusion and to aid our members in helping you.
bigorange is on the right track, I capture my moives and use ulead to burn them to DVD but its expensive and Nero is a very versatile software.
Take care and have a nice day.

Thanx guys i tried following the guide on the site and it works great, just takes a very long time but worth it!
Sorry if i caused confusion about saying a "downloaded" movie, was that the wrong term, what do you call it when you put camera movies onto pc?
Already have Nero 6 ultra with dvd plug in(i think thats right) is this the correct software you were referring to big orange? if so could you give me a basic walkthru?

OK, here we go:
1-open Nero smartstart, open nerovision express
2-put mouse on "make dvd", slide over to "dvd video" and click
3-close any windows that may pop up and click on "add video files", then browse to choose your v.cam files
4-add your files, wait for nve to import and add file. Do this for each, one at a time til done adding all files.
5-now you click on "create chapters" for each file you've added(if you want chapters), you can create them yourself(faster) or let nve do it on auto(slower). Hit "next" and do the same for the next file til all files have chapters
6-when done creating chapters click "next", you are now able to create a full working menu for your files. Just play around, it has a lot of options and some really neat features, to create some very nice dvd menus
7-when done click "next" and you will see a software remote control to view your finished "movie". IF something doesn't work or isn't to your liking you can go back and change it here.
8-when satisfied, click "next", choose to burn to burner or to your HD. then click "burn" and go away, leave the PC alone. Do not touch til finished, then go watch your movie on your dvd player. Use rw's til you get the hang of it, and use ritek G04's or verbatim. Media will make a huge difference on these projects.
good luck

Quote: Sorry if i caused confusion about saying a "downloaded" movie, was that the wrong term, what do you call it when you put camera movies onto pc?
If the signal coming into the PC is an analog source it's a capture. If you're just moving data across a firewire cable from a DV device it's actually just a transfer, but many people call it capturing, which is fine since it gets the point across. As you can see our membership is rather rabid about rules enforement. That's how we get away with a very low ratio of moderators to members.
Oh, and welcome to our little forum. :)

That was truly a thoughtless and unkind statement.
