posted on April 14th. Using DVD shrink and Decrypter. DVD Shrink gets to the end, then I get a message that there is not enough room to copy. I used pre-author on Shrink and just moved main movie to the left side. It says size 4359 on left, but on right side under DVD browser it says 6691 MB. What else can I do????

What version of Windows are you using and what type of file system is your Hard Disk Drive? NTFS or FAT32?

You will get that type of error if you are using DVD Shrink or DVD Decrypter to write ISO Disc Image files on a FAT 32 Hard Disk Drive. There is a 4GB limit on file sizes on FAT 32 and ISO Disc Images are usually larger than that. If you use Shrink in file mode you will not have this problem.

Windows XP/2000/NT can use NTFS, FAT 32 or FAT file systems.
Windows 98/ME can only use FAT 32 or FAT file systems.

Versions of Windows that can use NTFS have a built in converter or you can use Partition Magic.

One of the biggest problems when people make a upgrade from Win98/ME to WinXP/2000 is they skip the part at the beginning where there is the option to convert their drives from FAT or FAT32 to NTFS before installing WinXP/2000.

NTFS file system is what you should be using on XP/2000.
The only reason to continue to use a FAT or FAT32 file system is if you are also running another OS like Win98-ME or Linux on that computer.

Even after installing WinXP/2000 you can convert your FAT or FAT 32 drives to NTFS.
Open Help and Support and search for Convert NTFS to get complete directions.
Example:
Click Start - Run and type.
Convert C: /FS:NTFS

Before you make the conversion to NTFS.
It is a good idea to both defragment the drive and run a error check fixing both file system errors and recovery of bad sectors.
Right click on your drive and select Properties and these options are on the Tools tab.

Windows 98 uses a FAT 32 file system which has a 4GB (4096MB) file size limit, that will cause problems when working with ISO's. That means you should either not set the Target Device to ISO Disc Image or if you do you will have to set a Custom Target DVD size in the Preferences of 4090MB.

If you set the Target Device to Hard Disk Folder or your DVD Burner like when Nero is used to burn you will not have this problem.

If you want to use full size ISO Disc Image files greater than 4GB you will have to upgrade to Windows XP or 2000 which will allow you to use a NTFS file system.

There is a program that works with DVD Shrink and DVD Decrypter on FAT 32 drives called AutoShrinkISO. It makes split ISO files that will fit on that type of drive.

Good idea, I installed a new USB 123 gig hard drive and was using that and I thought when I installed I formated it from Fat 32, but just looked at the properties and it is in fact still Fat 32. I'll change that and try again. Thanks.

ok, changed from Fat 32, and tried procedure again. Now getting DVD Shrink error:

DVD Shrink encountered an error and cannot continue.
Programming error - exception occurred.

That could be many different things.
Using an older 3.1 version instead of 3.1.7.6.
Damaged DVD - Try a different DVD.
Bad RAM - Test RAM.
Shrink unable to decrypt - Use DVD Decrypter first.
Preview on while encoding - Disable preview.
And a few other things.

I am also using a usb hp dc4000 writer. Am still getting errors, I used Nero to burn and it fails 70% into it. Could it be because I am using a USB writer?
