article published on 12 December, 2011

Activision has announced today that its blockbuster smash hit Modern Warfare 3 has surpassed $1 billion in revenue, and it only took the game 16 days to do so. The milestone was hit one day quicker than it took "Avatar," the most profitable movie of all time, to reach $1 billion in sales. I hope this franchise burns in hell. They don't they give a damn about the customers. They don't invest any of this money back into the product. No R&D since it the same recycle bullshit. No dedicated server so we the customers gotta foot the bill on our already capped internet while dealing with lag/lag-compensating. They don't even pay there own damn employees, hence Respawn studios is born. Don't even get me started on Elite anyone that brought it is an idiot.

And they'll probably still say they lost 40% in revenue due to piracy...

And when that finally gets old, they'll blame 3rd world countries not importing enough. How dare they choose food over games!

apparently they don't give the money to the designers/developers thats why the original infinity ward guys left, the worst things about activision is they bought blizzard and im scared to life for whats gonna happen to blizz when activision comes crashing down. as far as mw3 goes grats to them but just because it sold so much(beiber,mw3)doesn't mean its quality but i am happy that video games are now as profitable as the movie business. 1b in less than 3 weeks! its really not social stigma anymore to be a gamer. although i bought skyrim instead on the pc and gave up on console gaming after my 3rd xbox died :[ and there is much better shooters for the pc than what cod has to offer.

i think the numbers are misleading cod mw is 59.99 per game and a movie ticket is on average 15.00 thats 4 to 1 so avatar has more people buying a ticket to see the movie than cod mw has buying that game at 1 billion its 16669444 games sold to avatars 66666666(and yes i know its all 6's but the average ticket price of 15.00 puts it like that) so i wish more studios would point out the user base that seen or bought the item they are bragging about mostly when they try to brag about how its the top dog from just dollar amount earned lets not forget that total amount from activision is i think just what the retail stores bought and a fraction of that is direct sales online we all know games sit on shelves and the longer they sit the lower the price gets until it sold at a loss for the stores or it gets returned to the company so its pointless to compare a game to a movies total revenue

This is true yes...but take into consideration how impressive it is given the high price tag. For most people, $60 can mean a week worth of food. Movies, even at $15, are a lot more affordable.

Um you missing my point a movie is true pay and play one time a video game is not really pay and play its pay and we don't care if you play or when you play they need to compare it with other video games not movies because it's not a fair chart it's just dollar bragging they need to stay within their category to show true bragging rights

I wish I could say I was surprised that they sold a billion dollars worth of overpriced DLCs...but I am not.

Next week they will probably blame piracy for it doing so poorly.

It's getting so old, it's about time that another developer overtakes.

I'm hoping that Respawn Ent kills off COD.

But then again EA sucks because pre-owned games require a key to play online.
