I got the DL Disc in this Verbatim Package:
http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp?id=1082519208752&skuId=6628483&type=product

I used DVD Decrypter to rip my entire Lord of the Rings: Return of the King Theatrical DVD, which I bought used at Blockbuster. (It's was all scratched up, so I decided to make a backup of it.)

Then I used Nero Ultra 6.0 (Nero Recode DVD Copy) to burn the full, unedited, uncompressed DVD onto the Dual Layer DVD+R disc. Nero automatically detected it as Dual Layer and automatically change the settings to DVD9 mode (8.5 GB)

Burned successfully at around 2.4X speed.

I tried it on the following DVD Players, all of which worked with absolutely NO problems!

1. My Sony Burner Drive (duh)
2. My Playstation 2
3. My Koss Home Theater DVD Player
4. My 1999 RCA DVD Player, with that now defunct Divx disposable rental DVD system. This was the REAL test IMO.

So, for me atleast, I got a 100% successful burn! The only downer is that at 2.4X burning Speed for DL discs, it took about 60 minutes to burn. But 60 minutes to burn about 4 hours of movie stuff is pretty good for me!

:D

Sweet!

Good to see all four players handled it well. I've been very curious as to how compatible the DL media would be and that's definitely a good sign :)

Geestar20, that would truly be a great price, BUT there is only one DL disc in that 10 pack.

I've been waiting to hear about compatibility issues and so far what you've posted is encouraging. I can't wait for the price to come down on the Dual layer discs. When they hit $5 each I'm in.

However the price is still about $15 for the dual layer disc. If we calculate the 8 DVD+R dics at $1.50 each they would come to $12, and the DVD+RW at $3.00 that gives us a total of $15, which means there's $15 remaining to be counted, the Dual Layre disc.

Still thanks for posting this, as far as I know that makes you one of the first on the forum to do so.

I really want one but not at the current media prices and if that isn't confusing enough, Blu-Ray recorders are going to be released in Japan on July 30. I think that they Blu-Ray recorders and media will be out of my desirable range for a couple of years.

cool denison, I bought the LiteOn SOHW-832S dual layer burner brand new on ebay for 90 bucks. Everything I've read on it is rave! I've been waiting to purchase the media, but 15.00 is an awful lot for one disc, especially when you consider all the apps I have to re-author and compress! However, after hearing you I think that was the push I needed, at least one just to see how it performs. hear! hear!, and a happy 4th to all!

Denzien, you said you ripped with DVD Decrypter. Did you do this in IFO or ISO mode? I just purchased my Sony 700A and am looking into DVD+R DL media online now. I Am asuming you did not need to do the whole video_ts folder process. If it isn;t to much trouble can you post, or email me the steps so I can try as well?

Thanks.

bluchipz, since he is using recode, you can use file mode in decrypter. Take those and use in recode under dvd to dvd copy. (Import dvd-files). Then I would assume custom fit. Then burn.

Sony's +R DL Media is $15 a pop
http://www.sonystyle.com/is-bin/INTERSHOP.enfinity/eCS/Store/en/-/USD/SY_DisplayProductInformation-Start;sid=_ggSlU5z-ZsS-A6fyewYngF8CLhtj_3pZWw=?ProductSKU=DL94912

Thats still way to expensive for most people, I am waiting for +RW DL if it will ever happen.

Pop

I don't think that dual layer will be on top for that long I think that Blu-Ray will take over withing the next 5 years. Imagine a Dual Layer Blu-Ray can hold 50 gigs.

Congrats on getting it working.

I've got exactly the same setup as you, however, I didn't have success with playing the DVD on my PS2. The model PS2 I have is the Silver model with SCPH 50002 as the model. The two attempts have resulted in "Disc Error" or hanging of the movie after a few seconds.

Can I ask which model you have? (Of PS2)

thanx flip, I've looked everywhere, that's the best I've seen yet. Paying 75.00 and One free one , kinda pathetic, isn't it? But I got this DL burner and I've got to try it. BTW, when you include shipping and tax the 6 discs cost almost exactly what my burner cost, only 3 dollars less. LOL LOL Now, God, oh God, what do I use it on, what a quagmire! They're like gold!

lol ... Yes still expensive. But this way you don't have to buy 9 discs like the verbatim solution kit. I'll probably buy a couple.
