The following comments relate to this news article:
article published on 19 January, 2012
Earlier today, the U.S. government shut down Megaupload.com, one of the largest and longest running cyberlockers in the business.
Its founders and a handful of employees have been arrested, as well, and charged with copyright infringement.
The indictment and arrests come just one day after major websites including Wikipedia and Google staged anti-SOPA "blackouts." SOPA was created ... [ read the full article ]

Dear Ronald,
Thank you for contacting me to share your views on H.R. 3261, the "Stop Online Piracy Act," also known as SOPA. It is good to hear from you, and I would appreciate your continued input on important issues facing our nation.
H.R. 3261, and its Senate counterpart, S. 968, the "Protect IP Act," would authorize both the Attorney General and license and patent holders, to bring actions against online infringers operating an internet site or domain where the site is "dedicated to infringing activities." While I believe that copyright infringement and other illegal activity on the internet needs to be combated, H.R. 3261 goes too far and has far too many unintended consequences. If this legislation were to come to the floor in its current form, I would cast a No vote.
H.R. 3261 is currently under consideration by the House Judiciary Committee, whose Chairman announced that they would not move this legislation along further. In addition, Senate leaders have cancelled their planned vote on S. 968. At this time there are no plans for H.R. 3261 and S. 968 to move through the legislative process. Rest assured that I will closely monitor these bills during the 112th Congress, and I will continue to keep your views in mind.
Thanks again for taking the time to contact me. If you would like to learn more about my positions on the issues or stay updated on important developments in Congress, please visit www.kissell.house.gov and sign up for our E-Newsletter to keep you more informed of my work in Congress. Please check my website for more information. I look forward to hearing from you again soon.
Sincerely,
Larry Kissell

Don't have to, his heinous lack of logical economic common sense is enough for me to consider him a joke without looking into his other issues.

No matter how flawed he's still a better choice than Rombot and Botabama or anything else the 2 party fascists can poo out.

if megaupload comes down, then every site out there could be tagged as copyright infringing. if you have a blog, if a commenter copies some text from some authority site and pastes the text as comment in your blog, that can be interpreted by sopa as piracy.
if you have a forum, and i create a thread that i copied from some materials on the net, that too could be a copyright infringement.
so facebook is on its way out. google too for maintaining an index of sites and copying there meta headers into their index.
wordpress, blogger, youtube, most of the major sites can fall under this definition.
what's left now to do.

His economic policies would put the world in a depression it has never seen before. A "get the guns and booze" type depression.

Welcome to the New World Order. Planet Earth is now just one big corporation. The last phase of the New World Order agenda? Crash the economy and force everyone to take a RFID implant chip or electronic tattoo - without it you wont be able to buy, sell, travel or live. In order to get the chips and fit in with society or their system of control? They will require by law all rights to your body and soul. LOL.....

I've heard there are a "few" pirates in China. The US Gov't should arrest them.

Now, now... That sounds too close to "wearing the mark of the beast" for the religious zealots & you're going to get them worked up next...

That's just it, folks -- all the other filesharing sites are still up. You may be thinking, "Yes, but for how long?" Well, if the DOJ could so thoroughly and completely annihilate MegaUpload out of existence, don't you think they could just as easily do that to all other filesharing websites? Or...is there something more obvious and flagrant about MegaUpload that made it (clearly) easy for the DOJ to obliterate it right off the internet?
The fact is that this isn't Nazi Germany or Communist China. This is America and rules have to be followed for indictments to stick like this one apparently seems to be.
I mean, c'mon people -- there are still blatant pirate torrent sites still up and operating that the DOJ can't seem to take down, but they can take down an "innocent" filesharing site? MegaUpload clearly did something stupid, got caught, and are now gone.
There's an old saying in law enforcement: "Only the stupid criminals get caught."

Except that the other big ones (not including Rapidshare) are ALL down and banning users and purging files left and right. This includes Fileserve, Wupload, Filesonic, and more.

Yes, because they're cleaning house so they can stay up.
It's like a street full of restaurants where one is shut down after a health department inspection -- all the other restaurants then scurry around to make sure everything is perfect, but they only do so after one of them is shut down.

Which is just like you're back tracking to clarify your original statement. An assurance that someone doesn't come along to claim 'right' king of pissant mountain.
All individuals who are involved in criminal activities that become acutely aware of ANY judicial actions coming down the pipeline will undoubtedly start to 'cover their ass'. It is usually the ones best financed & grossly educated that get the more advanced notice.
Then there are the pawns of the game. Even the file lockers that you have proposed as having not been shut down yet, WERE in fact shut down at one time for the very same reasons. They went lax & upon probably hearing about this blitzkrieg of judicial action coming, stepped up their policing a few months ago.
So, no, innocence is fickle in the eyes of US law & can most certainly be bought.

You obviously have no idea about how the USA ran before the current economic policies started to take hold about a hundred years ago. You spout verbiage from a liberal arts college or the like with no regard for any other line of thought or actual facts. Your statement that you dont have to read his own words shows that you are incapable of learning anything that actually challenges your ideas or views. Become a student of history. Maybe then you will begin to gain some wisdom.

This is all irrelevant - The USA is finished and is in self destruct mode. The country is run by liars, thieves and criminals. It was the USA that caused the global financial crash of today by selling off packaged fraudulent loans to Banks world wide, especially to Europe. They did this to slow down China's dominant trade economy giving them time to set up camp in Africa (Africom). The thing we should bare in mind now is this, when will the USA trigger off WW3?

I was with you up until the WW3 thing... Well, Africa might be a little bit of a stretch too, but I'm not going to argue quite yet.
Honestly, my biggest fear is when Germany & Sweden get their nuts up & make their margin call on the US again. Anyone with half a brain in the stock market (& I don't, it's not my education) knows we are illegally, continually & once again (like we 'ever' stopped) trading in the world markets, grossly 'in the margin'.
It caused the Great Depression of the 30s & to call our current situation anything less is a misnomer. It's rumored that it was Hitler's influence on the markets to make the margin calls across the board that helped bring Germany's economy back (in part, not as a whole). Obviously, that chaos worked to his advantage, despite the rumor.
Companies literally have global domination & with little exception there is little the government can do to curb the control of power.
Scary how greed & the pursuit of wealth can do that.

Interesting you mentioned Germany because they are looking to buy out the NYSE this year. Check out news on Chinese presence in Africa and over 100 Billion investment being pumped into the region this year, very interesting stuff occurring.

Yeah you are kind of right about that. I expect civil war here instead. But that will probably happen right before we instigate another world war. I blame it on our Education policies in america. We bring the smart down and discourage independent thinking. Hell our understanding of the sciences is abysmal. Dont even get me started on history. I half blame Mtv for this lazy outlook we have on life where singers are glamorized to the point that people think its more important to have rims on their car and a "bumpin' system" than to know how to spell. I take my extra money and buy practical things that make life more secure for me and mine. Phuq Looking cool. Looking cool will look real stupid when shit hits the fan and they've got nothing to subsist on. I still cant believe that the human race is so susceptible to propaganda. We generally believe anything on the news or that our government says. Its ridiculous how retarded we can be.
