Hello everyone.
I want to copy my Windows XP Professional CD(Purchased) to my hard-disc. Well, definitely i can copy it easily but the size of the folder where i copy it becomes more than 770 mb.
When i check the properties of the CD-ROM , it shows around 530 mb of space is used, then how come the copied folder use 770 mb space. The reason why I am worried about space is i have to make a slipstream CD of Windows XP integrated with Service Pack 1 . And for that i first have to copy my XP CD to hard-disc, then integrate it with SP-1 & finally burn it with Nero . And i cannot burn it if the size is > 700 mb.
Any help would be greatly appreciated .
Many Thanks .
Jack

Windows isnt copy protected so you can go ahead and copy-paste if you want.... if you are extracting an image using something like BIN/CUE then dont stress it too much, the BIN/CUE formats have a lot of "overhead" :)

Thanks for the help. Now what i've done is copied my XP disk to hard disk(size of folder is around 770mb) & then integrated it with SP1 (size increases to 785mb). So now if I burn that folder with Nero Burning Rom (using CD-ROM boot option) , will I be able to get a proper disk .
Another interesting point to note is that when an image is made using Nero, the image file size is 530mb.

Nero's NRG format is essentially a slightly modified ISO format .... which just so happens to be damn near the smallest format available :) ... oh an very nice burner! (i've got me one of them babies too!)

hehe .. that was quick . lol 3 minutes
Actually i don't want to make a 1:1 copy of my Xp CD, instead i have to copy the files & folders of that CD to my hard disk so that the service pack installer can update those files .
OK i will explain more deeply
-> I copy the contents( all files n folders) of the WINXP CD to E:\XP-CD
-> From E:\XP-SP1 (i extracted SP1 in this folder) , i give the command to integrate E:\XP-CD ("E:\XP-SP1\update\update.exe /s:E:\XP-CD" to be exact)
-> SP1 automatically updates the folder E:\XP-CD
-> Now I have to burn the updated folder E:\XP-CD to CD-R using Nero but its size is almost 790 MB . This is the problem

Thanks & sorry for such long posts

So sorry to reply late.
Well, one of my friends told me that Microsoft uses some technique by which many duplicate files are shown again & again while actually being present only once on the cd. I used a tool called CDImage with -o option to make an iso file. And guess what, it brought down the size to 628 MB which i easily burnt on a CD.
Haha, success finally . :)
Thanks
