Is ACTA a foregone conclusion or will it meet SOPA's fate?

article published on 3 February, 2012

With all the furor over SOPA and PIPA in recent months, the signing of the ACTA trade agreement last October by the US, Japan, and a handful of other countries has largely been ignored. The Anti Counterfeiting Trade Agreement resulted from efforts by the entertainment industry to mandate copyright law via international agreement. It was written in secret, with the input of movie and recording ... [ read the full article ]

LOL, silly people.

ACTA isn't for the US.

It's only for countries that want a free trade agreement with the USA.

the SOPA/PIPA bill are for the US.

ACTA isn't a bill either it's an agreement which pretty much closely follows the DCMA laws in the USA, but it does allow US FBI the ability to pick up people etc in that country without much questioning etc.

As for Australia as far as I know I think it got accepted a year or 2 ago, seeing as Australia is now a free trade partnar with the USA, ACTA is quite old Japan would have signed it 4, 5 years ago and was the first to sign it I think.

A country can accept it as it is but usually they question stuff and alter it so it's not the same laws for every country.

Like Australia has the DCMA parts on copyright stuff but the US cops can't just take people away, there's also some changes with what copyright covers and how someone can be pinged for coping it etc.

Australia wanted it altered and they made sure it was altered the US government where complaining about Australia wanting changes and couldn't understand why there had to be any changes at all.

It's on news websites look it up was in 2010.

Just reading further,

That US politician is silly, of cause Obama has to sign the ACTA as it is a TRADE AGREEMENT between 2 COUNTRIES. just as the prime minister etc has to sign the trade agreement on behalf of the other country.

How come US people don't know this stuff? I know US people live in a blinkered world but FFS it surely can't be that bad.

How come US people dont know this stuff?

Our Federally-controlled Socialist Meida (ABC, NBC, CBS, CNN) only report information favorable to Obama and Marxism.
How come YOU did not know this?

if they are too busy going to house to house then there will be no cops to arrest real crime outside the internet world.
