iTunes Match is replacing your rap songs with censored versions

article published on 4 February, 2012

As reported earlier this week by Cultofmac, iTunes Match is either unintentionally (or intentionally) converting some explicit rap songs to their more benevolent censored versions. iTunes Match is Apple's $25/year service that converts your entire library to "iTunes quality" and then stores the library in the cloud. A few of the artists that appear to get censored more than others ... [ read the full article ]

Ahh yes, the joys of letting a company like Crapple control your music library and keep it in their cloud. I wonder if the victims of this "accidental" censorship will be able to get the versions they paid for back.

Yet another good reason to distance yourself from a totalitarian company.

If I am playing for a said service, then "explicit content" had better sure as hell be an option that I can check on or off in a box. Gagging your customer's rights does NOT get you anywhere. Idiots!

Not an issue I have with my Android phone. Besides, surely censoring Kanye, NERD and Eminem is a good thing? It would be even better if we could "censor" them to the point of never having to hear them at all.

Just because you do not like a genre of music doesn't mean that it is ok for censorship. I wonder if "Mr. Brownstone" by GNR would be converted. Hell, what about 2 live crew? What I cannot understand is: If you have I tunes, why not upload the content into the library and be done with it. It will do the converting for you. I have over 200GB of music that I converted and it does not take that much time.

I think leglessoz was just being a little sarcastic because he doesn't like that music. God forbid they should ever censor Appetite for Destruction, one of my all time favorite albums.

I've really had enough hearing about cloud-everything bullshit. No no no. Sadly though, big media, with their hands (and cash) deep in the pockets of politicians will soon achieve their goal of the "consumer" never really ever "owning" a physical piece of anything. Movies, music, games you name it. You will have a "lifetime subscription" from the moment you are born, for ump-teen services, and you will enjoy the benefits of streaming everything conveniently from a central location "in the cloud" wherever you are. Fuck off big media, and shove the cloud up your ass while you're at it. I mean there is already talk of gaming consoles, the generation from the next having no physical media capabilities. The end of physical media is pretty close, and would be here a lot sooner, if the TelCos could wire up this U.S. & A with a f*cking half-way decent internet backbone. So...enjoy "discs" in whatever format you enjoy them while you can.
