R.I.P. BTJunkie

article published on 7 February, 2012

Following the take down of Megaupload, file-sharing site BTJunkie has decided to voluntarily shut down, as well. The torrent search engine, which at its peak had 4 million active torrents, was one of the top 500 trafficked sites in the entire world. Reads a note on BTJunkie's homepage: "This is the end of the line my friends. The decision does not come easy, but we've decided to voluntarily ... [ read the full article ]

Couldn't that be considered both, you lose your fundamental freedoms, you may as well lose the world.

Governments are always complaining about running out of space in jails & penitentiaries..and the incredibly high costs of running them. They're really not helping that situation by prosecuting people like this. All they're really doing is saturating jails even more and sending those extra costs to us, the tax payers. If they want to send the "incredibly evil" illegal fileshares to jail, then the costs to incarcerate people should be covered by the companies whose intellectual property was "stolen". Wouldn't that be fair? Why should we cover the $150,000 -$250,000 a year it costs to send someone to prison (here in Canada)? Tax payers should only pay for prison if the incarcerated person is a true danger to society.

Oh nooo...John Doe downloaded Transformers 3...hide your wife, kids, and everybody cause John Doe just stole $25 from paramount so he could watch a shitty movie 1 time. Oh nooo the horror. Report this man before he steals paramount into bankruptcy.

These companies should realize that the internet is their friend, not their enemy. The amount of people that have access to a pc with internet is increasing more and more each year. Bring those prices down so its accessible to more people! Geeez these companies are soo greedy that they're absolutely blind to demand changes...its simple supply and demand.

It's not that at all.

It's a case of how much time and money you are willing to spend on a court case if one ever comes up, while some people might be able to afford the server costs etc or deal with those costs.

Most people tend to drop the site and go else where very fast.

And those who are in the court are left to be screwed over while those still hanging around keep asking when the new server is going to be ready.

So some people don't want to have that problem and simple shut down the site and don't worry about it anymore, also they probably want to move on anyway, jobs/kids etc don't make it easy to sit on a computer all day long dealing with people who can't download torrents.

Sad. I liked BTJunkie too but it's just one of many results using www.torrentz.com

Now..........all we need is a Middle Eastern-based one to replace it. Middle East could give a rat's ass about the U.S. and same with Russia........let's go people........Start popping up out there!!

I think it's funny that people equate freedom with being able to download movies and music for free. Let's face it, that's what people used these sites for. If you think taking down btjunkie takes away your freedom you need to go visit a place where real freedom is controlled and get some perspective.

I'm sure there were legit files on btjunkie and mega upload but they were the minority and that traffic was not paying the bills.

And the idea that content owners should pay to incarcerate people who steal their work is insane. Imagine creating a video game that gets popular and people start sharing it. I can let them steal my work or I can pony up hundreds of thousands of dollars and pay to have them put away. Yeah that's a smart system.

think all the sites need to join together.the taking down of megaupload has intimadated other sites.they need to join together and form an alliance and a whole network of sites.

think taking all the criminals and putting them in a place together is asking for a disaster.
think using tax payers money to run the prisons is wrong.
