I tried to copy my Dvd, after it decrypted, it showed it had more than 4.7 GB, how can I burn the dvd more than 4.7 GB???

I have another question to add to that, maybe I missed something, but... Do you use both the Shrink and the Decrypter? Or one or the other to compress a file and then burn something more than 4.7 GB?

u use Decrypter to Decrypt the movies onto your HDD, then you use shrink to shrink the file down to about 4.3 gigabytes - then you can burn, with a burning application like nero

Hi Sasha, Welcome to the Club :D)
DVD Shrink will rip your DVD, edit it, if you wish, compress it if necessary to fit on a single blank DVD BUT, it can't burn it. For free, I recommend DVD Decrypter for that job. As I said, it's FREE, I do so love that word :P)
Go to the above link, at the bottom of the page you'll find a complete guide along with the necessary links for DVD Shrink and DVD Decrypter.
From beginning to end - reading the guide, downloading and installing the programs and ripping and burning a backup it should take you as little as an hour - (Depending on your connection with the internet.)

Another great program for compressing the files after ripping with DVD Decrypter is "instant copy version 8" by pinnacle. Although not free, it has never failed me. I have had some problems using shrink with a few of my titles that had dts soundtracks where it compressed, but some of the VOB files had no sound. IMO the video, and sound quality is also superior, it does take longer to process however using instant copy.

Ooh ok, thanks.
So if I have it right, then, I have Nero 6, the Decryter and the Shrink btw, I can use the shrink, and compress the file to 4.3 or such GB, then use my burning program, in this case, Nero, to burn the file, which is will then now be located on my harddrive from being ripped and shrunk, yes?

Yep, that covers it -
You can use DVD Shrink to have Nero "Auto-burn OR you can use Nero in the "Classic" mode to burn your HD files to disc.
If you're going to wait to burn, here's a guide to use for that:
BURNING WITH Nero CLASSIC
HINT:
First, create a folder for your work on your desktop - load your IFO, BUP and VOB files there - make sure they are in a folder named VIDEO_TS written like that (all in Caps) - some programs like DVD Shrink will make the properly named folder for you, others you must make the folder yourself - Nero needs that folder with all it?s contents in order to work properly ?

If you had used DVD Shrink to create a file on your HD you are truly in great shape. When you wish to burn, use the "File Browser" in Nero Classic (don?t use Wizard), trace your path back to ?All DVD Work\ Pirates of the Caribbean?, you don?t have to remember where your work is or if you need to do anymore work on it, it is completely finished, ready to go ? when you reach the end, you?ll be done and gone ?
OK then, is everyone comfy ? Good - its now time for - -
?Uncle? ScubaPete?s Step by Step, Let?s burn with Nero 6 Guide -
First - Do not use Nero Wizard -
Please follow EXACTLY -
When you open Nero Burning ROM, you will be at the ?New Compilation? window. Directly under the title ?New Compilation? is a choice block to choose either DVD or CD, choose ?DVD?. Directly under that click on the ?DVD Video Icon.? Then click ?New? in the upper right corner of that screen, NOT the main screen.
You now are in the ?DVD Video? window. In the left screen, click ?VIDEO_TS?. In the ?File Browser? screen, 3rd from the left, trace your path to the VIDEO_TS folder, the one you made earlier holding all of your files and click on that folder. All of your VIDEO_TS files are now opened in the right screen. Click on the top file, hold down the ?Shift? key and then click the bottom file thereby hi-lighting the entire column of files. Click and (holding the left mouse button down) drag the entire column of files to the open screen, second from the left and release the mouse button.
Now click the icon on the task bar that shows a match on a disc, and then click ?OK? and now, clear the room, stand up tall and shout out, ?Burn Baby, BURN? ! One more time, let me hear you say it, ?Who?s your Daddy Now ????
Guess what my Friend ? You are done !!!
(Wheeew, now I really need a cigarette)
NOW, STEP AWAY FROM THE COMPUTER ! !

Hello and thank you for your help thus far,
Okay ... the DVD I wanted to copy was originally 6.1 GB, and it had amazing quality. After I used the DVD Shrink on automatic, it took it down to about 4.4-ish, that took awhile, and then after it encoded it... which I'm not sure what that does, is that the thing that ensures quality or something? Well then I went into Nero 6, actually it's the OEM Suite, whatever that means, and I burned the shrunken file as an image. I wasn't sure how long it would take you to reply, so with the first reply you made, I sat here and tried to figure it out myself. Well it burned and such, but I did loose some of the quality of the feature after burning when I played it back on my DVD player.
Is that normal? Is that because of the fact that it went from 6.1 GB to 4.4 GB? Are there ways to try to save quality in video features?
Oh and I'm using DVD-Rs, does that have anything to do with it? Or it doesn't matter if it's an R or a RW in this case?

Hello! I'm a newbe and would like some help with the DVD Decrypter. It will not open on my PC... It comes up with a message that says there is nothing on my PC. that can open it and it tells me to search the web for whatever program I need to open it. But I'm not haveing any luck Can anyone help. thanks Maddog54

TriniMinx, regarding the quality difference, yes, you may notice some degradation moving from the original 6.1gb down to 4.4. If you do a "deep analysis" in Shrink, it will take Shrink longer but the result will be worth it. I have a lot of episodic DVDs (i.e. TV shows) that have had to be compressed to 50-55% or so, and using deep analysis in Shrink plus burning with RecordNow (the program that came with my Sony burner), I honestly can't tell the difference between my original and my burned DVD on either my 27" or 32" TVs (I don't have a 60" screen -- maybe I'd see some difference there, I don't know). I've read on this forum about some people having compression as low as 30-35% and still having great quality on the back-up.
If you DID do a deep analysis in Shrink and you still noticed a substantial difference between your original and your back-up, you must have better eyes than I do (or I am not picky enough!). :-)

Where do I find the Deep Analysis, or maybe that was the "encoding" thing I used.
I don't know, it took like two hours to do. First I used the shrink to put it on the harddrive as an image and then the encoding thing added another 30 to 40 minutes to the burning process. I'm using a new Mad Dog multimedia burner, which is an external that I hooked up to my laptop.
Approximately how many GB should you have free on your harddrive for burning DVDs? I have about 12GB at the moment. I'm thinking of getting an external HD for some stuff too.
What do you think? And are there other ways to improve quality? I mean I wouldn't mind reburning the DVD, if it'll come out better. Don't get me wrong, the quality is good, but not as well as the original. It's slightly darker, not by much, and it has a little flicker on the screen ever so often. My dad didn't notice it until I pointed it out. So maybe, I am picky with good eyes, I don't know.

that tiny bit of difference is to be expected (afterall you are going from 6 to 4 gigs)
and yes 12 gigabytes is fine about 10 - 11 maybe used depending on what you are doing, but it can all be deleted later ;D
and - if your dad dident notice it, it cant be that
