you always lose a bit of quality when u re-encode even if its not noticeable. the only way you could improve from the original source is to make it brighter or more colourful but nothing can be done about bad pixelation.

i wouldnt waste a 50c dvd-r on something as low quality as a rm video file. again if the source is bad, the re-encode will be worse.
i used to hate going to weddings, all the old dears would poke me and say "your next", they stopped saying it after i did it to them at funerals -Chopper Reid-

The best you can possible get from an reencode is 99.99% of the original quality ... shit in = shit out :)

lol: you don't worry about censorship. do you??
this is funny ,& I thaught most forums will kick you off for profanity.
this is real funnl (lol. hahahahahahahaha.
well anyhoo ,on to the subject at hand, oh well.
I'll guess whatevers fair, if I could get the source again, Id just encode to mpeg4 in highquality.
rm is pure crap anyways, divx/mpeg4 is way better.
NO i TAKE THAT BACK comparing divx to rm is comparing barney to godzilla.
no offense kids,

They probably do but (a) I'm a Mod and (b) as long as it doesnt get out of hand then most of the time things are pretty relaxed :)

you can always use filters from programmes such as avisynth, but when you said VCD, normally it is constant bitrate, and things tend to get blocky, there is no way you can fix that.
i think vhs is better than VCD, you can always filter out the grain in vhs, though it is not perfect.
save yourself the trouble and get dvds, unless you're bored and in need of a project. :P

Try using 'EO Video', key available at mscracks.com, will convert just about everything, you can enter new file asosiations etc too, but as said before rm files are low quality anyway.
