I bought the DVD XCopy Gold version. The DVD Xpress gave me the following error message:

"Program Error
Epress.EXE has generated errors & will be closed by Windows. You will need to restart the program. An error log being created."

I am running Windows 2000 Pro Service Pack 4. I have checked and the VSO (Patin Couffin Engine) Device is in the device manager. Also, under Drive Select it has recognized my drives. I have uninstalled and re-installed and I am continuing to receive the same message. It starts running Xpress and when it get to about 4% the error message comes up and shuts down the program.

Can anyone provide any direction to correct this problem - thank you.

Well I believe that's the newest version. So when you press start, it will read only to around 4% then you'll get this "Program Error
Epress.EXE has generated errors & will be closed by Windows. You will need to restart the program. An error log being created."

You could try a different patin couffin. Which do you have? Can you post the error log?

Yes, after it has read 4% the error message come up - it should be "Xpress and not Epress

I have tried patin couffin 19 but the error continues. I don't know where the error log is being filed - it doesn't tell me.

Do you have a dvd-rom with your dvd burner?

You could try the newer version v3.0.4:
http://www.nycsoftware.com/dvdxcopy/support/

And if the newer ones don't fix it, you could also try an earlier version of XCopy Gold v3.0.1

Do you think it may make a difference if I try
patin couffin 1.7 instead of 1.9?

There was 7 error logs created - six were blank. One of the logs contained the following:

Loading Controls
Loading Progress Manager

Drive Index: 0

That's it. Yes I have a DVD Rom Drive and a DVD Burner.

I'll have a look at the sites that you have suggested. Are you suggesting that I download the product from the sites?

What I've noticed about 321 product is they behave differently on the various pc's. The key (IMO) is trying everything till it works. Sometimes it's a newer version, sometimes an older version, updating ones aspi layer has also helped. I've also read where a different patin couffin layer solved the problem. Again try everything till it works :)

there gotta be more to that error log. In that log it shows no error.

And yes, download.

I would first try the newer version v3.0.4

That's all there is - no more. I realize thats strange.
Question - do I need to un-install 3.0.2 on my system before installing 3.0.4.

Also, is 3.0.4 a demo version that will work only for a certain trail period? Thanks for helping me with this flip218.

No, install over it. This way it will use the existing activation info.

If you have a valid license, it should be the full version.

should I try un-installing patin couffin 19 and installing 1.7 first or would you suggest I try loading 3.0.4 on top of my 3.0.2 first.

Thanks flip218 - I loaded 3.0.4 and Xpress is now reading a DVD and is at 28% and appears to be working well. Thanks for your help - I spent lots of time last night trying to figure this out without luck. I appreciate you picking up my problem and providing direction to solving the problem - it is very much appreciated. Have a great weekend.

Your welcome. One last suggestion ... Run only your backup software when backing up (Run nothing else ... even internet). Your processor is being worked hard enough when backing up dvd's, this can cause errors. So just a lil rule of thumb ... ONLY BACKUP SOFTWARE :-)

Well - I tried to read the DVD with Xcopy Express but it stopped several times before completing - it just locks up.

I have tried 3.0.1, 3.02 and 3.0.4 Xcopy Gold and with variations of Patin-Couffin 1.12, 1.17 and 1.19.

It looks like it wants to do something and then it stops. When I try to start it up again I get the same error message that I started with - "Program Error
Xpress.exe has generated errors & will be closed by Windows. You will need to restart the program. An error log being created."

I have no idea where to go from here.

So it's not working?? Well only install v3.0.4 since it's the newest version.

Other things you can try if you haven't already done so:
1) Make sure your burner is your master drive, and your dvd-rom is the slave.
2) try updating your aspi layer: http://forceaspi18.w.interia.pl/

Hi - I had ForceASPI17 loaded on my computer - I downloaded ForceASPI1.8 as you suggested and loaded. I ran the aspich.exe file and received the following message:

Adaptec ASPI Windows NT
This utility has checked your current ASPI installation. Version information and the operational status of ASPI are listed below.
WNASPI32.DLL Version: 4.712 (0) Date: 07/17/2 Size: 45056
WINASPI.DLL Version: N/A Date: N/A Size: N/A
ASPI32.SYS Version: 4.712 (0) Date: 07/17/2 Size: 16877
WOWPOST.EXE Version: N/A Date: N/A Size: N/A

ASPI is not properly installed. One or more components have been replaced with older versions of the software.

I checked it yesterday and it said that it was installed properly. Do you know what might have happened? Do I need to un-install anything before doing this - can I un-install and re-try this again?

My DVD burner is slaved with my hard drive as master. I have my CDROM and DVD ROM/Burner together. I have 4 drives in my system. Is having the DVD burner slaved a problem?

I have 3.0.4 Xcopy Gold on my system.

Thanks flip218

Did you install ForceASPI v1.8? Also I just installed over my existing. And all dll's should read v4.71.2
This is the recommendation they gave:
Quote:
I would recommend that you use ForceASPI in the following way...

Run dumpASPI to backup your current ASPI layer
Run instASPI to install the new ASPI layer
Reboot your PC
Run aspichk to see if everything worked OK
Also having your burner on the same cable as your HD is not good.
Quote:
I have my CDROM and DVD ROM/Burner together
take off your cdrom, make your dvd burner the master, and make your dvd/cdrw the slave.

I did exactly what needed to be done as you have indicated and still received the message I sent you earlier using aspich.exe

I dumped 1.8 and re-installed 1.7 and it now says everything is running properly and is fully operational and that a total of two host adapters have been detected. Do I need 1.8?

Also, could you explain to me why it is an issue to have the DVD Burner and Hard Drive together - I am just interested in knowing. So you are saying to completely disable my CDROM from future use? I need to go out for a couple of hours but will return to check the forum and to look at doing your suggestions. Thanks flip218.

I have connected my DVD Burner as master and the DVDROM as slave.

I have tried on three occasions to run Xcopy Xpress and I continue to get the "Program error...."

I am completely baffled with this. Any other ideas that I maybe should try. Thanks.

Hello Whitey n FLip.

Iv'e been keeping an eye on the events here and would like to offer some suggestions. I'll try not and go over anything thats been covered.

1st. WHitey, Need your systems specs. How large and much FREE HDD space on the partion that the 321 temp file is mapped to. How much RAM,the processor type & speed,ie;Pentium 3 or 4,Celeron,AMD.

2nd Dont install over a previously installed copy. I'll give unistall instructions later.

3rd. Be certain that the ASPI layer is installed properly, if not I'll send a different set of instructions for that.

We will start with this onfo to get started. We will get you up and running.

Thanks for your patience!!
