playback sound problems with dvdxcx

Hi, I need some help with dvdxcx. I have been burning dvd's on dvd+rw and dvd-r, however the background sound is very loud but the dialog is very soft. I have to turn the sound on the tv up all the way to hear the "voices" and the sound effects/music are extremely loud. Am I doing something wrong when burning? Any help much appreciated.
