Raspberry Pi cleared for delivery

article published on 10 April, 2012

Exceptionally cool! As I understand it though, I probably won't see mine until sometime in August.

Pretty popular little item they have going here & they're still incredibly backlogged.

What about the power source? The AC adapter will be bigger than the device itself, for sure. Some TV manufacturer or consortium should start developing a powered-HDMI standard. Imagine an entire computer enclosed inside a pendrive-sized case, with a male HDMI connector and no AC adapter needed. That would be, at last, the real plug&play computer!

@LordRuss: I believe the August ship date was an error that should have been resolved by the company that sent it out.

@dali: The power source is a micro B usb plug. you can read more about it on the RPi website. Just go to the FAQ and search power. It will give you a link to an archive. Happy reading.

Your quite welcome! I became fascinated with this after stumbling upon it through a different website, and I've been trying to learn as much about it as possible. Love this device!

Only in that it pertains to the 1st come, 1st serve basis. As I understand the news at present, only 10K of the devices have been cleared for delivery (which have 'just' [14Apr2012] been delivered). I'm deep in the 1st 100K...

So, if we take 15-30 days for manufacturing, 15-30days for CE certification & that final 15 days across the pond to me... Best case scenario would indeed be August once they got to the 10K bundle with my name on it.

I'm still not complaining though.

CE certification has already come and gone with flying colors. They had a blog post on the RPi blog about it. So really, it's just down to how fast they can get pumped out of the factory.

I'm aware of that... even read it. I figured that it would have to come up for re-certification each say, 25K or 50K units or so, to maintain proper manufacturing specifications/tolerances.

Otherwise, anyone could make a few thousand pieces & then just blow the whole wad on junk. Not a good business practice I know, but corporate America certainly seems to have been making a go of it for some 40 years.

Haha. Corporate America has been blowing things for much longer. It's surprising how they almost always get away with it.

Update:

Might have to eat a bit of crow here...

http://www.raspberrypi.org/ has made a bold statement that
"We now have in excess of 100,000 confirmed orders for the Raspberry Pi globally and can confirm that everyone who ordered before 18th April (i.e. today!) will definitely receive their Raspberry Pi before the end of June 2012, whatever your existing order confirmation says!"

So I'll admit that's at least a month prior to 'my' projected whine-age date & their original projection that they emailed me. So for now I'll ignore any natural disasters, biblical interventions, humanity meltdowns or alien attacks that may supersede the procurement of my coveted gadget.

It'll still be enough time for folks to come up with some cool things to try in the mean time before I tear mine up.

So true! I'm so anxious about getting my email. I've been checking day and night, anywhere from 2 to 3 times a day. :D
