Report: Microsoft has only sold 3.5 million WP7 phones, ever

According to well-connected Microsoft reporter Mary Jo Foley, the company has only sold 3.5 million Windows Phone 7 devices, to date.
That number would be extremely low if true, given that Google activates over 800,000 Android devices every single day.

Not surprised at all. I have only known 1 single person EVER to own a WP7. And I'm a networking tech so I work around techies all the time.
I would love to interview other techs to see how many WP7 devices each of them have ever seen someone actually own/use.
Windows phone CRAP!! Get outta that biz MS.

I disagree. The most players in the game, the best.
WP7 is a very good OS. Its UI is just amazing. Have you tried it or just hate M$? They just arrived late to the competition, but lumias are very good phones and there's the fact that Nokia has its fanboys, too.
BTW, I'm not a WP7 user, but I don't use Android either. I'm still using a Satio, for two years and a half now, and I'm not urged to get a new phone, since I'm happy enough with the 12.1 MPx cam, Opera Mobile, Whatsapp, GMail, Google Maps and Gravity, among many other useful apps. Anyway, since Symbian is dead, sooner or later I'll need to change, and I'm seriously considering moving to WP7 instead of Android. Crapple is out of the question.

I own a HTC HD7 and I happen to enjoy WP7. It's so much simpler than any Android device I've ever tried. I consider myself a tech-savvy person, and I am not a fan of M$ by any stretch of the imagination, but I honestly do believe WP7 is the superior OS as far as phones are concerned.

I am not the least bit surprised. I do hate M$ but then I do hate Apple and I own an ipod and I will buy an iphone when I move up to a smart phone.

I really like the WP7 OS. I'm just sick and tired of not being able to enjoy the same apps my friends are using.

IMO, the only advantage that IOS has is that people believe it's the best and therefore they get all the apps first.

I just picked up the HTC Titan and I love this phone. I upgraded from a rather ancient Blackberry 8700 and this just has so many more features than that phone had. The HTC blows my wife's iPhone out of the water when it comes to speed. WP7 is the new kid on the block, but time will tell if it is a dud or turns into a viable contender.
My last experience with Windows Mobile was on the HTC 2125. Their OS has come leaps and bounds from this phone.

M$ is not at all market savvy. It will dud just like their mp3 player that I can't even remember it name now (Zoon). It will never have the app market that Apple has because they have such a small market. M$ does not have the fiercely loyal customers Apple has who are content to be second class users because they are so 'cool'. They do have the thinnest notebook and don't mind paying double to be cool.

Then WTF is to like about WP7 other than it's interface?? It has no practical use in this competitive marketplace.
As for Dali.........boy I'd like to be mean to your first statement as it doesn't apply here. While I commend you on your thinking, because competition sincerely promotes quality and better pricing......you should have reserved that statement for another time. WP7 is not a competing factor for IOS or Android. They aren't selling enough to impact the competitive marketplace. Say what you want but it won't change this simple fact.

So, a good UI (currently the best, IMHO) is not an important factor? Well, that has been working quite well for the iPhone all these years, hasn't it?
And WP7 has very few apps available on its marketplace... Of course, because it's a newcomer. Most apps are crap, though. What really matters is the top selling and/or most downloaded ones and if devs will release WP7 ports of their new apps soon enough.
True. They aren't selling enough WP7 devices... For now. But let the people try them and get to know them, and maybe... Time will tell.
Think about the first days of Android. Who could think back then that it would face, and ultimately beat, the iPhone OS in sales, or even Symbian, the OS installed in most smartphones until a few months ago, with thousands of apps in the Ovi Store against a few dozens in Android Market. So, what about resuming this very same conversation in about, let's say, one year from now?
