Apple to release $799 MacBook Air this year?

article published on 7 May, 2012

The streaky Digitimes is reporting today that Apple is preparing a cheap $799 version of their popular ultrabook. If accurate, the MacBook Air will sell for just $799, $200 cheaper than the current base model. The source claims the Apple supply chain is gearing up for a third quarter release of the device. While there is no word on specs, it is easy to see why Apple would drop the ... [ read the full article ]

And the urge to ramp up the ulcer inducing bile against Apple starts to ensue... Frankly, no one has anything to offer that's going to blow anyone's shorts up particularly high, so why this electronic fair should be over the $500 mark befuddles me.

It should be the software vendors tripping our trigger here in the next 90 days or so going into the next school year / end of year shopping season. Possibly a new horizon for SSDs. Other than that, most of the processors & N/S bridge technology has hit another wall.

So redundantly, $800 for an underpowered Mac paperweight, in a still stagnant economy, just doesn't cut it.

Building enough sheeple to pursue this. If not a tablet, then a ultra book. Interesting strategy. Upgrade current model and lower the price on the outgoing model.

And you got this nugget from ??? Intel still provides the processors & motherboards, the memory is still obtained 'at bellow rock bottom cost'. IF the screen is gorilla glass, Apple will force their weight & mass purchase the next 3 models out of Corning, so do the math... The rest is software...

I'm sorry... what did I miss? There's a reason my "laptop" is called a 'desktop replacement'. I don't expect my 'tablet' do do what it does. Not even remotely. And for that extra horsepower? That's what they call a wall adapter.

So, 90% of the world sounds made up too, because I can't sell them at a pawn shop, but MAN! I can can sure sell those bricks in a hurry!

Again, like all other fanatics of the brand, it's stylish, the icons look happy & dance, but when you REALLY have to have the work in extreme conditions (weather, combat, construction, ect..) in ANY of the business environments, including the Arts, I have NEVER seen the Mac hold its own.

Argue as you may, facts don't lie. Even Mac owners have a slutty, haggered Windows machine lurking somewhere in the house.
