I like Verbatim branded discs. I used to use Memorex and Sony discs when I first started backing dvd's, and when those went crappy ... I used my original to make another one.

Verbatim and Memorex could both be made by CMC. You need to know who really makes the discs.

Personally I won't use anything other than Ritek discs. Never had any problems burning to them and they are very compatible when it comes to playing them back on standalone dvd players.
Never tried the Verbatim ones but if flip218 can recommend them then that's good enough for me. May give them a try.

I have used both cheap and costly media. It is true that a lot of the cheap ones will "rot" after a long period of time. I am currently using Ritek Ridata manufactured by Ricoh with great success. Ones burnt almost 2 years ago still play flawlessly. You can get +RW for about .80 each and +R for about .60 each (The - format is a little cheaper) from Newegg.com with free shipping.
