Hey, I was playing my Xbox today and turned it off then came back an hour later to play again and put a game in (original) and it wouldnt pick it up, so I tried a music CD and it wouldnt pick that up either... you could hear the laser moving back and fourth in the box, but the disc doesnt show to have even been spun when i open the tray.

nothing fell on the box and it wasnt handled rough during that time, I just turned it off and came back later.

heres what ive been doing and nothing picks up
Turn it on
Put game in
light flashes around eject button
stays on dashboard.
turn off turn back on
goes to dashboard
doesnt pick up that anything is in the drive

Any help please?

Is your disc clean? It could be that the laser has gone and you might need a new dvd drive.

Sure sounds like the laser to me
if you hear the laser moving rapidly, its not usually a good sign. The laser should only be heard for a second or so before it picks up the disc. If it keeps moving rapidly on every disc, its either
1/ dirty dics (which in your case is doubtful as you have tried others)
2/ the laser alignment
3/ laser needs replacing

HAVING SAID THAT you COULD check on your cables, as you have been getting some fragging (flashing leds etc)
is your xbox modded btw?

I just noticed yo usaying the disc didnt look like it had spun, try a few discs, see if they spin, if not it could well be thedrive motor,
thing is the discs shouls spin, even if the laser isnt working, in fact you will find they spin like crazy if not picked up by the laser.
It seems it may be a dvd drive replacemet, you can pickup a thompson drive very cheap on ebay, if you want a philips is a bit more, and yet a little more for a samsung, but unless youre wanting a drive to read a lot of differnt media, and arent too bothered about upload speeds to a pc, a thompson would be ok.
Ive seen them sell on ebay as low as $20- $25.
I actually sounds too that your laser MIGHT be ok, so if you get another drive, hold on to the old one, if only for the laser.

I dont think its fraggin he just means the green light which flashes when the xbox is turned on. I think you need a new dvd drive, there relatively cheap and easy to fit.

Well thanks for the quick responses... Not the best news id like to hear but I think youre right, still aint workin this morning.

Its not modded in any way... What I dont get is why all the sudden it would just stop working within an hour of me playing it before.

And yeah, no CD's spin in it at all, music or game or DVD, so the disc isnt getting lifted by the motor, but I can still hear the laser moving back and fourth in there.

Like what djboogie said is probably the drive motor now, i would suggest just replacing the whole drive unless you are confident in raplacing the motor which i think would be too much trouble. The thompson drive is very cheap anyway, get one off ebay.
